    Here's a couple quick tips:

    -Do A LOT of editing. Make sure you have perfect grammar. If your writing is filled with grammatical errors, it will just turn people off. Good grammar is one of the first things you should focus on when you're applying.

    -If you're not funny, don't try to be funny. Some people are better at being serious writers. Find your voice and figure out what kind of writer you are going to be.

    -Don't take yourself too seriously and don't think that your opinion holds more weight above anyone else's. When it comes down to it, you're writing about dudes in their underwear. You won't gain any fans by having an ego.

    -Don't write ridiculous articles just for the sake of being controversial. This is a big one. It seems to be a trend to have a "Top 10" or "Top 50" article and end it with a ridiculous #1 just to piss people off and get more comments. Doing this is just lame. You might get more comments but you'll only turn people off from your writing in the future.
