The Short List facts and information about Derek Harmsworth

Favorite Athletes

I'm certain I'll leave someone out, so I hope you can edit this.. Hockey: Matt Stajan, Mats Sundin, Anton Stralman, Alex Ovechkin, Joe Thornton, and too many goalies to name Football: Vince Young, Brett Favre, Brian Urlacher, Paul Pozlusny Baseball: David Eckstein, Derek Jeter, Josh Beckett Soccer: Any one from the England national team, lol, Joe Cole has to be my favourite though. Lacrosse: Blaine Manning, Bob Watson, John Tavares, I think I covered them all, probably not though.

Favorite Sports Teams

Maple Leafs Blue Jays Toronto Rock Tennessee Titans England national soccer team Chelsea of the EPL

All Time Sports Moment

hmm, see to me sports are all about moments. Sure the scores count, but it's the moments that make sports, like Ray Bourque finally getting to hoist the cup, Joe Carter lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to TWO consecutive world series' Things like that, memories are what makes sports so special

Most Memorable Game Attended

Can't say I've been to too many important games in sports history, but they were all memorable to me. Canada vs USA in the field lacrosse championships was awesome like two summers ago, and the few Leafs games I have been too. My most memorable game will probably be this summer, when me and my bro take a roady to New York city to see the Jays play the Yankees in the jays final appearance in the famous Yankee Stadium.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

hmm, anymore I'm not sure any record is unbreakable, but i would say Glenn Hall's record of playing every game of the season (Hall was an NHL goalie for those who are unfamiliar.) For the record, I do think someone will score 93 goals some day in the NHL (that could be hopeful optimism though..)

Ruth or Mays?

Mays. Too young to see either of them play, but I think as good as Ruth was, and he truly was, Mays was a guy who could do it all, hit, run, steal, play D, so I'll say Mays

Unitas or Montana?

Again, a little too young, but I would say Steve Young is my personal pick over both of them (not saying he was better or anything, just a personal thing.) Young was in his hay day when I was a kid, so there were many days I was playing Steve Young in my backyard.

Pele or Maradona?

As a kid with an English background, I will never choose Maradona (hand of god my foot :)) So I go with Pele.

Jordan or Gretzky?

Gretzky. I'm a hockey guy, plain and simple. But Jordan was awesome too, again one of those guys who was in his prime when I was a youngster.

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

I don't watch much college football, but when I do, I cheer Notre Dame, so the indys I guess

  1. Ok, I put the article up this morning. I'm looking forward to the game tonight, but it's going to be hard to choose to cheer for. The Red Wings, a team I've hated since birth, or the Stars, who kicked my Sharks out? :(
    Oh the decisions, lol.

  2. Ha, well I didn't see what he wrote. What did he say?
Yeah, it's okay. Well, not really. I stepped on my Sharks blanket a few times, flipped off my Joe Thornton poster, went on a profanity-laced tirade in front of my Dad, cursed a few more times...well the list goes on. But now I'm forced to root for the Pens, since all my faves are out. Ugh. What makes me more mad is the fact that there was a Sharks game before my SAT...didn't study for that. Sharks game before an AP exam I had today...didn't study for that. I don't think I'm going to college anymore, lol.
I'll be sure to make those either tonight or some time tomorrow.

  3. Thanks for putting me in the MIDDLE of that, even though I'm last? haha. Did you and Danielle even get any points that round? I feel like I'm actually making ground on this. Yea, I was thinking of posting the article tomorrow or something, it'll have a distinctly similar feel to the last one (frank Drebin may or may not return I'm not sure) where I have an actual article before the picks.

Anyhow man, have a good one! (At least the draft is soon...Go Leafs? haha)

  4. I like the idea that you got going here. I'm in. Here's my personal email address in case you try to find me before I find you. Let's rock this casbah, shall we?
    OmegaF5@msn.com

One more thing: Check out the NHL Rivalry column I put up today. Tell me what ya think. Thanks.

  5. Ugh.... the Sharks. My picks are pretty messed up now.

  6. hey

my pick will be in later..i am reqlly busy working on the race car

    here are them anyways tho

    montreal in 6
    detroit in 7
    san jose in 6
    pittsburgh in 5

  7. okay, sounds good.
and YES i was at the game, and YES it was the craziest one i've been to!!!!

  8. it looks about right....frank drebin kicked my ass ps hahaha

  9. Hey man, thanks for the mention in your article. I tend to lean towards opinions/stories that differ from the norm and thought that giving some insight into this talented player and the bizarre situation he's in would be a welcome change from the repetition in subject matter that tends to happen this time of they year.
I Read some of your stuff and I dig your style, I don't usually read guys who focus on one team but you have some solid insights and opinions that go beyond 'Go Leafs Go' so it makes for some good readings.
    Keep up the good work!

  10. Yeah, hopefully they'll be feeling a little generous and want to give me one. I've only had one once and it was awesome. I will definitely let you know how that goes. Thanks again!!!

  11. Hey, thanks. Maybe I'll be able to snag one, hopefully saying I write for Hockeybuzz will be good enough, haha. I'm hoping even more that I won't have to ask for one for a game 7, but for another series!!!

  12. Hey! Thanks for the read. And, that would be great. I know the Fan Development guy that works for the Sharks, and he said that I'd have to apply for one now that I'm a "member of the media" since I write for hockeybuzz now. If you could give that me that would be great.

  13. p.s. I am not in a place to judge your Wellwood jersey...haha but I totally feel your pain!! :)

  14. Thanks for your note Derek, I appreciate the support! It's really too bad about the Marlies and the lack of support they receive from Toronto fans. I'm going to the game again tonight so I am doing my best to support them as far as my wallet will stretch. haha.

Nice pic with Pogge up there by the way!

    Take care! Jen

  15. Haha, no problem. I'm glad I could provide some.
Thanks for the compliment, though. I honestly think it's weird saying I'm a good writer, but thank you. I should be on HockeyBuzz starting tomorrow (at least that's what I was told).
Good luck on the picks. You'll need them if you're competing with me...JUST KIDDING! :)
