About

^ This is me. If you look closely you'll see that the tie has the colours and iconography of the Wellington Phoenix, the local club. Slightly awesome. Slightly tragic.

I'm Stephen, and I love sports as much as I enjoy writing. To prove it, I'm studying Law and a BA in Political Science, but I'm also considering taking a journalism course in the future and while I'd love to be a freelance journalist, it's probably more a dream that will become a hobby than anything else.

I follow football (soccer) in three countries: my home country New Zealand (pretty terrible league though, if we're being honest), Australia which has our only professional club, and England, where I'm a die-hard Newcastle United fan despite no connections to the place. Come to think of it, I follow most major sports somehow.

As a NZer, I also love rugby, league, and get thoroughly depressed by the cricket on a regular basis because we really are that useless. I enjoy other 'kiwi' things too, like cooking hangis, shagging sheep, and doing hakas.

Writing-wise I have my blog. It's more there for skills development though, so in my opinion it's not as good as my work here. But feel free to head over and have a look/place feedback. I'd appreciate it.

Short List

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Baltimore Ravens, Orlando Magic, NZ Breakers, Wellington Saints, Newcastle United, All Whites, Wellington Phoenix, Team Wellington, All Blacks, Hurricanes, NZ Warriors, the list goes on....

  • All Time Sports Moment

Jonah Lomu + Mike Catt. YouTube it, and tell me rugby isn't awesome.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

The Wellington Saints coming back against the Waikato Pistons to win the NZ basketball league in the final game of the 2010 series.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

8 NBA titles in a row. But imo this is a good thing. It means the league is evening itself out (except for those Cavs).

I have to ask, how does a Kiwi (is that a derogatory term? I have no idea, not very familiar with New Zealand) get into the Ravens?

I can't disagree with anything you're saying, but when I look at this Ravens team, I don't see anything super about them. Maybe my mind is just formulated to consider offensive powerhouses super, but I just don't see it with this team.

That's why my gut is telling me Patriots. I hope my gut is wrong. Also, for what it's worth, I picked against the Ravens in Cincinnati. They had played without passion for weeks, I figured it would carry over, but it didn't. Maybe they can flip the switch on Sunday like they did against the Bengals. Here's hoping!

I actually had that slide in my 5 bold predictions article, but I took it out. I honestly feel too biased to make a prediction.

There are a few stats working in Baltimore's favor. New England hasn't beaten a winning team all year (unless you count the 9-8 Broncos in the playoffs). Their three losses were against Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and the Giants. Buffalo was a fluke, but the other two might not have been.

Also, no team has ever won a Super Bowl with a defense as bad as the Patriots.

Finally, teams coming off a blowout win in the playoffs tend to do very poorly the next week.

My head is picking the Ravens, but my gut doesn't think they can do it. Hopefully I managed to sufficiently answer the question without really answering it. What do you think?
