About

Brazilian/Italian citizen, Penn State grad, Eagles fan. Yes, it may sound biased (on so many levels, too).

But, seriously, I'm into the plots, the mind games and the business of sports. And I'm not shy when it comes to voicing/writing my opinions about it.

Confrontational? Check. Polarizing? Check. Sarcastic? Check. Let me know if I'm clever and/or witty enough for you. Please, do tell. Willing to read, to listen, to learn, to improve.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, Deion Sanders, Brian Dawkins, Michael Jordan and curiously, many of the players who once--nearly singlehandedly--ended Brazil's World Cup hopes (hate is the sincerest form of flattery, I guess).

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Philadelphia Eagles, Penn State Football, The Brazilian National Soccer Team, Clube Atlético Paranaense, Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Flyers, any team playing the Cowboys/Lakers/Yankees/Red Wings/Notre Dame, the Italian National Soccer Team, Juventus FC, FC Barcelona (or any team playing Real Madrid).

  • Favorite Coaches

Joe Paterno...forever, John Madden (the coach, the man with the telestrator, the game which has turned legions of fans into the most well-informed, knowledgeable bunch in all of sports), Buddy Ryan (Eagles-mentality), Phil Jackson (Bulls-success), Bill Walsh (legacy) and every NFL/college football coach/assistant of today, WAY ahead of any coach/manager from ANY other sport.

  • All Time Sports Moment

Super Bowl XXV, the first ever to be broadcasted live to Brazil. If you don't fall in love with the game after THAT, man... (HONORABLE MENTIONS: Bulls first 3-peat, culminating with Paxson's shot; Texas 41, USC 38, college football's greatest game ever).

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

    TIE: Penn State 31, Notre Dame 10 (@ PSU, 2007) & Eagles 30, Cowboys 27 (@ Dallas, 2010).

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

JoePa's career win total, hopefully. Honorable mention:

  • Ruth or Mays?

He who transcends the game, The Babe.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana; I have the utmost respect for good ol' smash-mouth football...but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the MODERN GAME. And Joe helped it reach a whole new level of refinement.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Blasphemy ain't cool; please do not categorize His Airness amongst the common folk.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

He's "The Great One" for a reason: his greatness.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Yes, I'm Brazilian, so Pelé. Like Jordan MEANT so more to his sport than Magic could ever mean, he IS so much more to the sport than Maradona could ever be. But, with that said, Pelé is part of something called "the past", and Diego is the best player I've watched play.

  • Federer or Sampras?

If it wasn't for Agassi, Sampras would be just another tennis player wearing white garments. If it isn't for Nadal, the sport's appeal to a cooler audience would have faded away with Andre's retirement. Each of them has to thank his nemesis for sticking around. Federer gets this one for winning more, but I prefer Sampras.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Golf's not a sport; is a [very] well-paid hobby. Tiger's the best at it. He's also fake, while Jack was...well...golf. Sincerely? Arnold Palmer WAS golf.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Congrats, NASCAR Marketing! You've turned being stuck at a lefthand turn (for HOURS, mind you) into a [profitable] sport. Petty WAS the "sport", but Dale's death made him eternal.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Again, I'm Brazilian. Senna was [way] more idolized than Pelé by my generation. And his precocious death elevated him to deity status. I've made a case for Schumi before, but the lack of charisma...and competition...did him in.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

A fine Big Ten education helped me understand one thing: the SEC is the NFL's 9th division. We're talking football, right? What is this "March Madness" some speak of? Kiddin'...I like the big dance...but...c'mon, it's a football world out there, and we're so, so lucky to live in it...
