My name is Mike. I'm 24 years old and I currently reside in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, PA. I'm a die-hard Philadelphia Sports fan, but I mainly focus on the Philadelphia Flyers. I have a passion for hockey, writing, tattoos (have the flyers logo tattooed on my chest), piercings, beer, beer pong, fantasy sports, college mascots who fight, and thunderstorms.

I've been with Bleacher Report for a while now, and in that time I've had my articles featured on many popular sports websites, such as:

-NHL.com
-SpectorsHockey.net
-Philly.com
-CSNPhilly.com
-CBSSports.com

I hope to build off of my success and eventually become an analyst or sportswriter for a professional website or magazine in Philadelphia. Bleacher Report has played a major role in my writing career and has helped me reach new heights in my pursuit of becoming a journalist.

I appreciate the msg Mike. Did I call this with Giroux or what, when I was going back and forth with Joe in your other article. It's ironic that now everyone is really subdued on the other sites like NHL.com especially about Sid.. I am so sick to see this happening to the stars in the league. I want to see teams at full strength, this is really not any fun for me as a fan. Maybe the league really needs to make changes? I don't know what the answer is but I do know tonight we are going to dress a minor league team and a game I was looking forward to with the Wings turns into a "hope nobody gets hurt" ..Ughhh

I actually just opened my oldish mailbox and realized, hey, I get these Flyers letters. So I decided this site to be the source for me to write a bit about what I've been wondering recently... How are the Flyers going to make a team next year?

Philly basically have no available capspace. Giroux and Carter have both been signed with contract extensions, and both are getting more expensive - especially, of course, Giroux. With one of the best playmakers in the league, Leino, nearing the end of his $800,000 contract, it is clear that he wants and deserves much more than that. The Flyers, though, aren't going to be the team that could afford a new deal with him, cap-wise. Especially not with Versteeg. This trade I didn't get at all; this has been the worst thing since Arron Asham got "replaced", or so I see it, with a) older, b) slower, c) less effective, d) more expensive, e) more monotonic and less clever player that is Jody Shelley. Even though this might have been a single bad stroke, they've still had one of the best forwards core in there, and with no major injuries to speak of. So why add another $3M in Versteeg even though there were already 12-14 very good forwards? And for draft picks that they are going to need now or never! They are going to be so screwed with the cap limit, they will not be able to resign even guys like Carcillo, Nödl and Powe! They would need cheap rookiees (that is, if they're not getting such bonuses in their beginner deals like JVR and Bob...). I see not one, but TWO major trades / waives coming, just to fit the whole gang under the cap next year! This is no good. Judging from contract extensions, we might think they are not going to be Carter or Giroux that are leaving. So, Hartnell? Briere? Pronger/Timonen? And they haven't been needing Lappy recently as he's been available. To Phantoms with him, I say! ._.

Also, their most expensive guys are getting old these years, and they have some very long deals. I say if Flyers don't win the Stanley Cup this year, they aren't going to win it in near future. They are going downhill with production dropping with the core getting old, and with cap limit issues. A Zherdev leaving won't help much with those.

    Greetings from Finland!
