illya's Bio

Have an active interest in association football more as a fan of the game than individual teams. though supported manchester united right through my youth and still enjoy watching them play, am a great fan of alex ferguson and his continuing dedication to maintaining his brilliant managerial record. However I am also a fan of arsene wenger for the same reason which may sound strange to some. Still play myself in a far flung footballing corner of the world, hawkes bay, new zealand and am actually looking at going into coaching. I have actually in the last few months grown to despise manchester united after the large amount of idiotic fans they attract.

  1. Soccer/futbol is great, and it is the world sport, and I don't DISLIKE it...
as for few people caring, I refer to general US sports watching. Not the world. But you're right, there's an enormous market for soccer on a worldwide level.

This is the topic for the next round table..Kindly ensure your format is as follows we don't want you to create a formation..It should be like this :
    (THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE)
    My Formation 4-4-2

    Manager-Scolari : because....
GK-Casillas : because he is very consistent.
    RB-Garincha: because.....

So create your all time World X1 and email it to worldfootball@post.com,latest by 3rd July (Thursday)
Kindly email it from your permanent email address so you can be given future round tables discussions as well..

    Cheers,
    SS

  5. Hey mate. New Zealand rules. I got a friend or two down there. All Blacks all the way!!

Yeah as you can tell I got a bug up me arse about Cristiano. The thing is I think the media overrate him. Funny thing is if they did not overrate him so much I might actually like him.

That header he scored in the Champs league final was one of the finest, especially how he found the space to do it. I think he`s good but far from the best. I think the EPL is amongst the best but not the absolute best either.

I love all kinds of football and I love football not winning as one of my favourite games of all times was Nigeria beating Brazil in Atlanta. We lost, but I loved it, fantastic football and Kanu has done it again this year in England I see. Champion he is.

    Great to hear from you.

  6. Hey Mate,

Our First 4 Round Tables have been published, after giving the writers a deserved break,we return with another World Football Round Table..

The Topic this time round is :
"Which system do you prefer, golden goal or penalties and why".This topic was suggested by S and I'd like to thank him for that.

You have till 30th June (Monday) to send in a contribution..If you wish to participate, send in a contribution 50-150 words to worldfootball@post.com

After you done the above...leave some spaces..write "MY PICK" and choose from one of the following topics..the topic which gets the most votes will be the topic for our next Round Table..

    The Topics are :
1.Which club or country do you think has the most intriguing uniform and why?

2.What is your Best World 11 of all time and why?

3.What do you think is the most annoying thing in football and why?

    Till then..it's a wrap..

    Cheers,
    SS

  7. Hey mate...don`t get me wrong. I`m not saying that EPL is not good.
All I`m saying is that people should not overstate its importance and get carried away.
It`s especially disturbing when people try to brush aside South America as no good when this is the place where the stars are born.

You can`t brush aside Brazil either when you consider that since the FIFA club word cup started Brazil has won three out of four.

Beating the likes of ManU, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Remember your Champs League and UEFA champs go and get beaten by South American teams. Different Brazilian teams not just one or two.

The only Euro club to win the tourney is Milan...ironically laden with Brazilians.

Also please don`t give me that drool about we do not care about that tourney....(we can`t win).
    That`s a childish excuse I get a lot.
The Chaps League and UEFA winners should be able to beat some teams from the so called weaker leagues shouldn`t they? Fact is the other leagues are not that weak at all.
