Professional Boston sports teams: Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots

  • Favorite Coaches

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

This is pretty tough, I would say Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak. Not only because 2,632 is an enormous amount of consecutive games, but also because -- it's just not "necessary." If you played 160 games a year, your team would likely see just as much success as if you played the full 162, so I don't see anyone approaching that record, especially in an age where players are encouraged to take an occasional day off and are often rested to gear up for the playoffs. So, I think the Iron Man status is a bit overrated. I'm more impressed with Gretzky's total points record. That's going to be around for a while I think. He averaged 1.92 PPG for his entire career. The only player that has ever even come close in terms of PPG is Mario Lemieux., at 1.88. I didn't get to see much of Gretzky play, and I really can't even imagine what 1.92 PPG looks like when you are watching it. Consider this: Today's most dominant players in Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin average 1.4 and 1.3 PPG, respectively.

  • Ruth or Mays?

    Ted Williams? ;)

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Montana

  • Jordan or Russell?

    apples to oranges

  • Gretzky or Orr?

After all that about Gretzky's records -- I still like #4. After all, I imagine Paul Coffey converted more than his fair share of Gretzky's feeds into assists by putting them in the back of the net -- and it's hard to imagine Paul Coffey being the player he was without Bobby Orr reinventing the position. But, really, it's more apple and oranges.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Brady is a great quarterback, but see his last 4 playoff appearances as to why he is not as clutch as the media and especially ESPN want the public to think. Also, when compared to Montana people need to understand a long feild goal to win a game is not the same as a game winning drive that ends in a TD.
