I find myself in an odd predicament. I'm a lifelong Mets fan, rooting for my team through the ups, but mostly rooting for my team through the downs. I come from a baseball family--a Mets fan by choice, however. See, I was born and raised in the Bronx but yet, I find that pinstripes don't quite match my underdog approach to life. My family grew up as Giants fans, which probably has something to do with it. When their heart and soul moved to California, they found themselves empty, and created a new favorite team: whoever was playing the Yankees. When the Mets finally emerged in the early 60s, they were torn: "Ahh, a national league team again! But what about my Giants?" So alas, as the years progressed, finally a generation was born that had never been to the Polo Grounds. I.E., me. So I find myself a Mets fan--a supporter of pitchers hitting and a supporter of a team that traded away so much raw talent in the pursuit of a third basemen.
