Luke's Bio

Born and raised in Baltimore, Md., I love writing about and talking Baltimore sports. If you want to distract me from just about anything I'm doing, simply mention the word Ravens, Orioles, or Terps.

One of my fondest childhood memories is going to Memorial Stadium with my father to cheer on Cal Ripken and Eddie Murray. The chants of "EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE!" are still engraved deeply in my memory.

My favorite Baltimore sports memory is the Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV victory and attending the victory parade in the pouring rain.

My least favorite Baltimore sports memory is the last 11 seasons of Orioles baseball.

I was recently chosen the winner of WNST's King of Baltimore Sportstalk Competition and currently cover the Ravens for WNST.net. You can read my blog at http://wnst.net/wordpress/lukejones/

  7. Please give me your thoughts on this.

So far, the O's are 28-37, certainly better than most expected. What some O's fans are loving right now is Brad Bergesen, the rookie who is 4-2 with a 3.79 ERA (3-0, 1.69 last 4 starts). He's not the leader of the cavalry, but....

  10. Jake Arrieta is the 36th overall prospect in baseball. He can't be underrated, can he? Can he? Wrong.

  13. Hey Luke,

People of my generation look at them fondly as the players they watched as little kids, people of other generations may just look at them as great players. I created a slide show highlighting the best players of the 1990's. If you get a chance, take a look, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

  14. Hey Luke,

There was a touching moment in the Mariners game last night, made possible by the best pitcher I've ever gotten to watch - Randy Johnson. Watching history unfold inspired to me take a look at his incredible career and count down his five best moments, in my eyes. If you get a chance, take a look at it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

  15. Luke,

If you've ever read my writing, you'd know I believe in Andy MacPhail's rebuilding plan. I think we all know the Orioles have the bright future ahead of them. The O's have stockpiled on pitching, with guys like Tillman, Patton, Arrieta, Berken, Hernandez, Bergesen, Zagone, McCurry, and after this draft, we'll likely add another first round pitcher like Alex White, Aaron Crow, or Tyler Matsek. But who is the Orioles future ace? Is it Tillman? Patton? Matusz? Arrieta? Adam Eaton?
