About Kevin »

I am a fan of Football, Baseball and Track & Field. I attended Auburn University during the first Pat Dye years so Auburn is my first passion. I grew up in Alabama watching Bear Bryant Alabama teams and I follow the Tide closely to this day. I have lived in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and California so I find myself interested in sports and teams from these states as well. My first attention is devoted to college football in general. My goal is to provoke thought and fan participation. I think the more fans that are outspoken and involved the better all sports will be. My ambition is to learn as much as I can about everything I can and pass that along so that the knowledge can be shared.
I have a wife and three boys spaced 12 years from oldest to youngest. We have two Border Collies, Ben and Fefur that keep us company. We are older to be parents, so our young children keep us active. My wife is Swedish so my boys are quite fond of snow, cold weather and the Nordic sports. I have never developed an interest in either.

    I'm under no delusions.

I spent the last 15 years of my life living in a community that made Maplesville look like a metropolitan area.

I coached one player in high school who went from a 2A school to D1 and then on to the pros.

I'm close to two other players from that community who followed the same path and have both been in the NFL -- one who will probably be a Hall of Famer.

I've seen the kids who had the talent and didn't exert themselves. The kid I coached wasn't the best player on our team, but he was the hardest worker. He didn't come from a wealthy family.

I know about the camps. I've worked them as a coach and I've helped players get there.

I worked with Auburn on several kids when Bowden was there. I know what lazy recruiting looks like because Bowden's bunch epitomized it.

I know how kids end up at Elon and Furman and Sewanee and Livingston and Troy and Stillman. I've helped place them.

I also know that any time you've got a kid who is relatively poor but shows great athletic talent there is always some "community leader" who will latch on to them and be their "mentor."

You're not telling me anything I don't already know first hand. I can tell you from my lenghty experience that the instances of kids being "overlooked" at small schools or by major programs are minimal. Too much money, too much fame is at stake.

    Hey Kevin,

I just completed the second of a three part series between myself, Mike Kline and Justin McTeer, breaking down the Duke Blue Devils basketball season.

I highlight the back court of Duke and the different players that will need to contribute to the team. If you get a chance, check it out.

    Feedback is always appreciated. Thanks!

It's about to hit the fan in the next 30 days.

That is all I am saying....
