NASCAR, Stop the Talladega “Flip” Flap [and Improve Competition] (Part Two)
11/19/2009
First Cup race attended: the 1963 World 600. I'm on the Lower Peninsula of Virginia. My Dad built race cars for the local tracks (he was an owner/builder, not a driver) until I was about 4 years old. (Someone once told me many years later that Dad's 1950 Mercury street car was the "fastest car on the Peninsula!" All I know for sure is that Mom usually told Dad to 'slow down.') Dad and his brother-in-law decided that the idea of "if one is good, two are better" was NOT a good idea. Dad said one of the cars always seemed to be broken. So they sold all the racing cars and Mom and Dad bought the house I lived and grew up in. How I wound up joining Dad and his buddies for the 1963 World 600 is a story in itself; but from then on I usually was part of the crew heading to the races. [Several stories there! ] I went to the Grand National races on a regular basis until 1971, when I went into the Army. Due the "family thing" I did not attend another "Cup" race until 2007 when the wife and kids decided to sent me to both the races at Richmond! Pretty cool eh? {It actually was both "B" series races and both"Cup" races. Way Cool!} But despite not attending, I've certainly enjoyed the expansion of stock car coverage over the years.

Here's a follow-up of an unexpected type.
Today I had the pleasure to meet Macey Causey.
A very nice girl, she was wearing a pink [of course] t-shirt that said something about 'boys whining while girls go fast.'
Very fun, and she is very proud of the accomplishments of her 'Nana' [grandmother] Diane Teel.

Thanks Crabber...I've been waiting to read the whole deal in one sitting.
I know that's not the way I should have done it but...I'm no damn good anyway.
I'll read the complete series when I get home tonight.
