My name is Ryan Wooden and I am a 21 year old resident of Morris, Il, a sleepy suburb of Chicago located about an hour to it's southwest.
I grew up a huge fan of the Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks and White Sox, but my real passion since I have been about 16 has been college sports. I was raised as a huge Notre Dame and U of I (Illinois) fan. After I graduated high school I attended the University of Tennessee and came to love the Volunteers and pretty much every aspect of the SEC.
I played baseball, football, and basketball in high school, but when I realized athletics was going to come to an end for me I always wanted to do something to stay close to sports and took an interest in writing.
When I am in the comfort of my own home you can normally find me tuned into ESPN or on my laptop being the sports nerd that I am, but I also occasionally manage to mix in a few things that may pass off for a social life as well.
I enjoy visiting pretty much any college within driving distance of me to soak up the atmosphere and hang out with some of my friends. I also enjoy playing sports whenever I can, but when I don't feel like being too active I satisfy my competitive desires by playing cards.
My favorite personal moments in sports include attending both the White Sox and Blackhawks victory parades following their world championships, attending the Vols 21-17 Outback Bowl win over Wisconsin in 2008 ('07 season), and winning a state championship in football my junior year.
God willing, I would love to get paid to do this some day, but for now I am content to use B/R to develop an identity as a writer and to become a more well-rounded writer in general.
For breaking sports updates (specifically Tennessee recruiting news) follow me on twitter.
You hearing anything down in Knoxville tonight about the futures of Bruce Pearl and AD Mike Hamilton? I got a phone call about an hour ago saying there's a HOT rumor about an announcement Tuesday.
It would appear that I have a scheduling conflict at 6:30 EST on National Signing Day.
A friend has a place for me at this event, seated next to John Painter, Associate of Media Relations for Football at UT.
Let me know how I can help in any other way.
Ryan, thanks for being a fan and welcome to B/R!
