After 30 years as a newspaper reporter, editor and award-winning columnist, Dutery recently retired from the grind of "goat feed" journalism to become a free-lance writer. The decision, he says, has allowed him to focus on important stuff.

Like fantasy football. But from a somewhat different angle.

"Start'em, Sit'em lists are like ear lobes," he says. "Everybody has at least one. And most have holes in them." Instead, he scours the offbeat, obscure and deservedly ignored regions of the FF underworld for stories that will compel readers to ask "What is wrong with this guy?"

His ambition is to one day compile an "All-Williams" fantasy football team. "I just need to find a league that allows you to start seven wide receivers," he says.
