NCAA Football 10' Adds Yet Another Touch of Reality
07/14/2009
Watching College football on Saturdays > Anything else you could be doing.
I'm finishing my schooling at the University of North Florida as a business major. I would someday like to own and run a restaurant/bar in the Jacksonville area where I reside.
Here are each conferences BCS bowl game records...the numbers speak for themselves....
SEC=12-5(.706%)--5 NC
Big 12=7-9(.437%)--2 NC
Big 10=8-11(.421%)--1 NC
Pac 10=9-4(.692%)--1 NC
ACC=2-9(.182%)--1 NC
Big East=6-5(.545%)--1 NC
Non BCS=3-1(.750%)--0 NC
Independent=0-3(.000%)--0 NC
Cheers!
Now that the offense is done, it is time for the defense :

Sorry for the 2nd note, but you can check out a unique example of how teams were moved up and down the poll in the way I mentioned with the 1966 season which included the notorious Notre Dame-Michigan State tie.
It has controversy about how a team could jump the other if both teams won and, remarkably, why Bama was not pushed ahead of both teams since they tied and did not lose. It's an interesting example of what I talked about below. It's interesting when you keep in mind the 2007 season and LSU jumping several teams at the end of the year.

Carson,
No need to apologize (Sunday Musing's article), it's all good.
Some of your arguments are valid when comparing wins, losses, opponents and records but this is rather a new trend. The polls before the BCS very rarely dropped teams if the won. Likewise, a team that won didn't jump another team if the team in front of them won or didn't play. Even an ugly win was enough to keep a team where they were. The point was to find a way to win, even if ugly, instead of winning by 40 or 50.
It's not because I'm older that makes my argument valid, it's just that some long time watchers didn't engage in these comparisons of wins and losses. The way teams were moved up and down the poll seemed, ironically, fair as applied to all conferences and teams compared to the chaos of the BCS now. As strong as some of your arguments are, it's kind of hard to change the mindset of folks watching this game since the '60's and '70's until now.
That's why I made the distinction between older and younger CFB fans. Your profile and age as a current college student seems to indicate your bulk of college football viewing was likely during the BCS era when all of this began to change.
Good luck to the Gators.

I am not sure what you are talking about. I know we were discussing a bet of some sort but I don't remember agreeing on any specific terms. If you can point me to where we did then I will gladly pay you or whatever the wager was but as I said, I don't think anything specific was ever agreed upon.

Maybe the Halloween proximity explains the motivation for this piece.

Tebow is the best player in the SEC no doubt. Alabama has three backups for their loss and a player coming off suspension for the South Carolina game that was pushing for the starting job at that position. I do not see a big fall off there. There should be some falloff though. Florida is not without talent if Tebow doesn't play against LSU. If Florida comes to play they should win with or without Tebow. Alabama is a different story. If that is the SEC championship match up it will be fun for all of us. Florida is Floreda's biggest obstacle in the regular season. It is hard to be up for every game when you are picked as a double digit favorite and everyone is telling you how great you are. We know where that led USC a few years back.

Carson we play Tennessee this week. I was just calling it like I see it on Florida/Alabama I do not have a dog in that hunt. Sorry if my opinion upset you it is just how I see it. Good Luck

Hey, I am currently trying to become a Duke Football Featured Columnist. This is something that would really mean a lot to me, so please take the time to read the article and comment on it. Tell me what you think about it, what I could change to make it better, etc. Thanks in advance!

Carson - I replied to that article, and I don't think BT has addressed my argument yet.
I pointed out the fundamental flaw in his argument:
Miami won 4 national titles in 11 years.
USC has won 1 national title in 8 years.
That means USC would have to win the next 3 national titles to deserve the comparison. I also pointed out, that if Florida wins this year, they will need only one title under Brantley to match or best Miami's run.
