About

Let's see...

My name is Jack Vuylsteke. I'm 21 years old. I'm from Springfield, IL but currently reside in Champaign, IL where I attend the University of Illinois. I'm an English major with a minor in World Lit and I hope to one day teach college literature. School and reading take up the majority of my time August-May, but I still find time to be a die-hard sports fan along with a full-time student.

In the picture to the right, I am wearing a pink cowboy hat. Trust me, this is not an everyday thing.

I'm a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha at U of I. Out of high school I thought I'd never join a fraternity, but I have to say it's been the best risk I've ever taken.

My sports loyalties are pretty spread-out. First and foremost, I am, have been, and will always live and die with the Fighting Illini. They are my life's blood, the team of my childhood. Once I got into Illinois, I didn't look back. Turning Illinois down would have been like slapping my grandmother in the face. I am a proud (to say the least) member of Orange Krush, the nation's BEST student section. If you don't believe me, come to Assembly Hall.

Secondly I'm a Cardinals fan through and through, and this is what gets me in the most trouble. Central Illinois is split 50/50 Cards and Cubs, and it's not a nice rivalry. Still, I am always up to defend my Cardinals if need be, even in the face of the season we're about to have...

I am also a huge Mavs fan and have been since the inception of the Nash-Dirk-Finley trio. When that broke up, I had to make a decision and I chose Dirk (and Mark Cuban), so I still love the Mavs. Because of this, I definitely know how it feels to be a displaced sports fan.

As much as I love those teams, there's also teams I just cannot stand, and you can probably guess who they are. The Chicago Cubs. The Indiana Hoosiers. The Missouri Tigers. The San Antonio Spurs. The Golden State Warriors. This is the only time I will utter the poison of those words again on this site.

As far as my sports knowledge goes, I'd say I follow the NBA closest, followed by college basketball and football simply due to my proximity to each, then the MLB, and finally the NFL.

I recently was hired as an editorial intern, so I am in charge of cleaning up the site a little.

After working on the website for about a month now, I have learned a good deal about sports and teams that I don't follow as closely. All the writers have been really impressive, and thanks to everyone who has given me positive feedback about my work.

I want to give special recognition to the hockey writers on the site. I have been doing a lot of work on the hockey pages, and I think it is safe to say that hockey is the best covered sport on the site, at least from my personal experience. A lot of you guys are doing some really good stuff with the NHL portion, so keep it coming.

Thanks for the edits Jack on my Bill Self article. But I guess you didn't know that "Come to think of it" is my tag line. I start all articles with it in the title. And I try to end each article with it, too. Similar to the way Ryan uses "Just saing, is all". So I went back and re-adjusted it.

Thanks for the edit man. But I didn't like that little snippet where you changed the "Harris not being the sole reason" to "Harris BEING the sole reason". No worries but thanks for the grammar fixes.

Thanks for the edits man. I'm a big time Hawks fan myself and yes, that Josh Smith jersey is pretty tight! Did u watch the 05 dunk contest when he pulled out the nique jersey? That was great.
