About Trampes »

Trampes C Crow is a rabid college football fan who has a long-running, long-suffering addiction to the Auburn Tigers. More recently he has also become a dedicated fan of the Texas Longhorns.

Outside of his football fandom, Trampes is an accomplished leader and subject matter expert on leadership, the Middle East, and Arab-Islamic culture. As an Army officer, Trampes held the rank of Captain after serving with distinction for over 9 years in the active Army.

Trampes is a 1996 Distinguished Military Graduate of Auburn University and a 2007 graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas-Austin. His military education consisted of a range of leadership development schools including the Armor Captain’s Career Course, the Combined Arms Staff Services School, the Special Operations Middle East Studies Course, and the Special Operations Arabic Language Course where he was the class Honor Graduate.

Trampes began his military career as an Armor officer where he served in the 2nd Infantry Division, the 3rd Infantry Division, and in the US Army Training and Doctrine Command. In November 2001, Captain Crow was selected to enter the Special Operations Civil Affairs Officer training course where he was assigned to the Middle East region. Upon completion of training at the JFK Special Warfare Center and School, Trampes was assigned to the Army’s only active duty Civil Affairs battalion, the 96th CA Battalion at Ft Bragg, NC. From there he deployed to Central Iraq in 2004 in support of 5th Special Forces Group and the 1st Infantry Division’s mission in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In early 2005, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of the United States Special Operations Command component of Operation Enduring Freedom.

As an experienced Middle Eastern specialist, Trampes has spent extensive time studying, living, and working in 7 Middle Eastern and Central Asian nations including Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, and Afghanistan. Trampes has written extensively about the region and its people.

Trampes non-football related written work has been published in several academic journals including the LBJ Journal (LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas) and American Diplomacy (University of North Carolina). Mr. Crow’s work in Iraq was also featured in the New York Times #1 Bestseller Fiasco by Thomas Ricks.

In 9 years of military service, Trampes earned the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), and the Army Achievement Medal (5th award). He also holds the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Army Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Combat Action Badge.

Trampes is a proud native of Enterprise, Alabama and now lives in Austin with his wife and two daughters.
