Steve 's Bio
An avid sports fan that has followed the Red Sox for well over 40 years, the Patriots since their early days and many other New England sports stallworths from the Celtics, Bruins, Boston College (football, basketball), UNH hockey, football and any other sport, I just can't get enough.
I'm a former chef, (actually still am though now I cook for only my family and friends) that went to college (Plymouth State) in my 30's and 40's and changed careers. I taught health education and was the athletic director at a central NH high school before getting my masters degree in school administration. I work at a preK-8 elementary school of 600+ students in the Lakes Region(NH) as the assistant principal.
Of all the athletes I have seen come and go in the last 45 years I would say the most dominant, the one that most transcended his sport was #4 Bobby Orr. I have argued the point with many that Orr, not Gretzky was the best player to ever lace up a pair of skates. One of my favorite stories was told by an announcer on WBZ many years ago. I'll give the short version; A NY Ranger fan called to say that Brad Park (a very good player), not Bobby Orr was the best defenseman in the NHL; the announccer said that he heard a story of a Bruins fan that died and was met at the Pearly Gates by an angel that offererd to bring him on a tour of Heaven. As they walked the grounds the fan noticed what seemed to be a hockey rink and asked if he could go inside, the angel of course, said yes. Upon entering the rink the Bruins fan was struck as he saw a lone skater going up and down the ice, he was graceful and fast he made moves that seemed impossible for mere mortals and he had on a Bruins jersey with #4 on his back. He turned to the angel with tears welling in his eyes and said, oh my God that's Bobby Orr, did he die? the angels response came as a relief; he said no, no that's God he thinks he's Bobby Orr.
