Greg's Bio
A lifelong sports fan born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Gallagher is always looking forward to the next puck drop and tipoff.
Gallagher retired from piano lessons at the age of 12 to devote more time to hockey and baseball. However, he did retain his musical knowledge, and to this day plays the bass, guitar, and drums. He also took up playing basketball around age 11 and began following the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls with great interest.
After a failed tryout attempt with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees men's basketball team and a change in studies from economics to arts, Gallagher realized he wanted to be in sports communications and never looked back. In 2001, he began covering the Gee-Gees basketball teams for the Fulcrum, the school's campus newspaper, and did so until 2004. In the same year, he became the sports information assistant for the university and was responsible for press releases and weekly previews.
When the school began live video webcasts in 2005, Gallagher was brought on board as the play-by-play announcer, which he continues as to this day as the voice of both the men's and women's teams.
Gallagher has closely followed the Ottawa Senators since their inception in 1992, and has experienced all the celebrations and heartbreaks. Before the Senators' run to the 2007 Stanley Cup final, Gallagher created a group on Facebook, "GO RED. Ottawa Senators PLAYOFFS 2007!", on which was featured his "President's 2 Cents" postgame blog-style columns.
The group boasted 10,600+ members at its peak in June 2007, and Gallagher made two appearances on CTV television in Canada, as well as twice guesting on Buffalo radio during the playoff run. The group's success led to it being featured on the Senators' main website.
Gallagher currently is a moderator on Sens Army Central, the message board on the Senators' official website. His "President's 2 Cents" columns are archived at http://sens2cents.blogspot.com.
Notably, Gallagher is also a regular content contributor (usually Raptors/NBA and Senators/NHL content) on the Surgenor Hummer Big Bad Sports Show starring Tony House, which airs weekly on Rogers Television 22 in Ottawa.
In his spare time, Gallagher enjoys playing the bass, playing sports (usually hockey and basketball), and grooving to hip hop, rock, and jazz. He is particularly fond of patios and light beer during Ottawa's hot summers.
