Jack's Bio

Although I graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts, my true love lies in playing, watching & writing about ice hockey. (Check out my website www.vallon-media.webs.com ) As a student I contributed stories to the S.U. student paper, the Daily Orange, as well as summers, when I had time away from working on the "old cabin", scribbling pieces for my hometown paper, the Cooperstown Freeman’s Journal. Duties at the Journal included covering the Otsego Macs, the regions local semi-pro baseball team in their exhibition campaign against teams that included the Colorado Silver Bullets, an all-female professional baseball team, managed by Hall of Fame pitcher Phil Neikro. Duties also included covering events held at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

During my time at S.U. I also had the opportunity to interview Dr. Mike Emrick, as a part of a University paper & personal project. Since graduating S.U. I've been living & working in Europe. I follow the Devils via the satellite. It's tough, requires a lot of late nights and dedication; but I love it!

On a personal level I've been a Devil fan since the 87-88 season, & can honestly say that since Johnny Mac's OT goal, the tally propelling the Devs into their very first Stanley Cup Playoffs, I've lived & died by their successes & failures. This year was especially tragic for all Devs fans; no need to elaborate any more than that.
I currently work in property management my goal is to get back into journalism & creative writing on a fulltime basis one day soon . Please feel free to contact me on j.vallon@googlemail.com if you'd like any information about my interviews & stories.

  1. For all of those out there who say baseball should have a salary cap, prepare to have some knowledge dropped on you.

  2. Hello Jack, I would like you to take a look at this article and leave your support in the comment area. I would love to see this story make a difference. Pass it around! Thanks

  3. Hey Jack, great article on the Devils' strategy and the Rangers' "borrowing" of it. The hard-nosed defensive style the Devils have always displayed is the exact reason I fell in love with them as a kid.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to your future Devils articles.

  4. There has always been a connection between religion and sports, and Major League Baseball has certainly not been the exception to the rule.

  5. Hey,

The turmoil surrounding the 1977 Yankees earned them the nickname of “The Bronx Zoo.” The current 2009 Yankees have an interesting blend of leaders and pranksters, so I decided to create a LITERAL “zoo.”

Check out what animal each Yankee would be reincarnated as in a next life.

  8. Hey,

Chien-Ming Wang collected his 1st win in 379 days. This puts him on pace to reach 300 wins on Oct. 21, 2263. Can it happen? Read why I am not ruling the tall Taiwanese right-hander out quite yet.

  9. Hey,

It’s been a very long time since I have extended an article of mine to the Bulletin Boards of my friends/fans, but this one is filled with the true venom and passion of a frustrated Yankees fan. The days of consistent success are over, and this baseball lifer is blaming Brian Cashman. Read how he has displayed the baseball knowledge of a little leaguer in assembling Yankee teams of the last 7 years.

I would love to hear your feedback on this one. Thanks everyone!

  10. He mate

wrote a piece which I tried to make my master piece. Could you please cheack it out. Don't be scared of telling me if it is bad

  11. A-doh, my fault.. didn't realize it was all current players. Obviously, if it were all time, that list would have looked alot different: my fault. Then yeah, I guess the only guys I would also consider for that list would be Rafalski, Brodeur, and even Cam Ward. This guy, when he gets to the playoffs, is a straight up PLAYER. His first playoff year, he rocked out a 214 GAA winning the Conn Smythe and in his second year of the playoffs, came 4 games short of reaching the Stanley Cup Finals. He'll make this list in 5 years, mark my words.

And yeah, I was iffy on Brent-- should he stay or should he go? Well, now that he's out, I'm over and done with it. Thanks for the 2 years, but good riddance.

  12. Good article, a few comments:

    1. I'd think Scott Stevens would make the list, certainly over Pronger. He's missed the playoffs only twice in his carreer, (in '96 and in his last, injury plagued, year). He was incredibly punishing, and from each of the 3 Cups that he won you can distinctly remember a hit:

1995 on Slava Kozlov, I can still see Slava standing up slowly with his chinstrap up around his nose. Stevens went to the bench, pointed to a Red Wing, and yelled "You're next".

2000 on Eric Lindros: no comment nessicary. Simply one of the biggest hits you'll ever see, and completely changed the momentum of the series-deciding game.

2003 on Paul Kariya: devestating blow, no two ways around it.

And while I know hits don't equal points, all 3 of those were clean. Pronger is a dirty jerkoff. Stevens 2 more cups to his name, (all 3 of his cups he has a C on his jersey), a Conn Smythe, and 118 points in 233 playoff games, which isn't too shabby for a defensive D-man.

The other guy I'd petition for the list would be Marty, but I don't think there's any use to starting that argument.

  13. Hey,

Read about a metaphoric but also personalized tale about a cocky Yankees fan realizing the harsh realities and lessons of professional athletics. I would love to hear your opinions.
