Sean Crowe got his start writing for the now defunct dailysportsreport.com and sportsfanatics.net.

His influences include ESPN's Bill Simmons (from his Digital City Boston days) and the Boston Globe's Dan Shaughnessy before he went catatonic and was replaced by a random negative article regurgitating robot.

He is married (since 2003) with 2 beautiful daughters. He's currently working in the IT Department at a manufacturing company in Newburyport. He's a die-hard Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics fan.

Sometimes he even acknowledges the Bruins existence.

I'll tell you something...I don't give out 'Pick of the Day' votes very often. If I do, I try to keep them within the NHL section so that I can try to keep my section strong (Fairly single-minded, but you have to keep in mind that my section is probably the weakest received section on BR in comparison with College sports, NFL, MLB, NBA, and Soccer—something I've been working to amend the past few months).

With that being said, I'll give them to one of two kinds of articles: Ones that make my laugh for the rest of the day, and ones that make me stop and reflect on what I just read. That article made me do that.

It wasn't loud, crass, and obnoxious like mine was about Specter, and it wasn't just a fan who "wanted his football back"—that came from a human being.

Outside of some of Rick Reilly's stuff, I'll tell you that I found it to be one of the more touching articles I've read recently—the story about the death of that young woman, the fact that you just don't get it anymore, and the fact that this has been building up far too long in the States came out in a truly just, and thoughtful manner.

If I was still wearing my hat (I took it off when I showered following my umpire clinic) I would tip it to you Mr. Crowe. Needless to say, you'll just have to accept my appreciation on quite a stirring read.

(Ps. Do I play the serious card well or what? Too bad I can't talk to women so eloquently!)

I will...but only if you tell me that my Prom article:

A) Seems to imply I have deep seeded depression issues with how my Prom turned out

B) Is completely unnecessary to the point that it allows someone to say "seriously, we're parodying (or whatever he said) the prom now?

C) Confirm the fact that those tips may actually work at weddings

D) Agree with Ken in the sense that the fact that me actually writing something like that bothers the living daylights out of you.

Either way, I'm reading your stuff man, no worries haha!

74-69? 74-69? SEAN BACK OFF OF THE LEDGE.......THIS IS GOOD NEWS (I Think).....I mean, how much do the Celtics average at home? A lot right? That means that they can hold Lebron to 74 again, and still win...right?

Who cares, it was a road game....yes Vince McMahon runs the NBA and possibly pulls the strings on Arlen Specter, but he also eats puppies covered in cotton candy and babies born unto 16 year old virgins (it doesnt make sense, but work with me here....) this just means that the Celtics can go through the first two rounds without having to try to win a road game...that's good news right? They're just saving all that road energy...

Also, Tito went with Joe Girardi, a rookie manager, as a coach in the All-Star game....he didn't take Gibby, proving that other managers think he's slime (for some reason, I think this would cheer you up)

At least you're not a Tigers fan....they may not even make the playoffs, let alone .500...

And if that doesn't feel better....it's Boston....if they're full now, the Bars will be open by like 7, 8 am right?

What was the NHL's worst decision? Hiring Bettman in the first place? The strike? Brett Hull scores? Letting Todd Bertuzzi back into the league at all, much less after just 21 games (you CAN'T count the strike year!)? Letting Chris Simon back into the league? Giving Chris Pronger only eight games for the same offense Simon got 30?

There have been so many, I'm not sure I can say which are worse than others, but signing with Versus is as bad as any of them.

Weird thing is, we had this exact conversation (me and a buddy) over beers and wings last night, and was basically what you said to a tee—why broadcast on a network that 30-35% of American Households get, whereas everyone gets ESPN, whether you have limited air time or not. The great thing about the interview, is that I kind of exposed the network as Bettman's way of saying the game in America is ok when it really isn't.

"It's about developing the roots"—that may be true, but some of these teams have had 10 or 15 years to do so and it hasn't stuck.

In a lot of ways I disagreed with what he said, but that's the great thing about interviews—it's him saying it...I'm asking the questions, and it's someone elses opinion. A nice change of pace.

The Celts looked angry yesterday, and tougher too. I know Doc Rivers isn't the uh...smartest cookie Mr. Christie ever made, but I'm almost wondering if the close-call with the Hawks is like the reverse Patriots. You know, 18-1 teams have said that losing that one regular season game kept them comitted and refreshed their focus—maybe this is the Celts equivalent to that?

So I was at the Jays/Sox game today.....Halladay is throwing great stuff, and at the 7.1 inning mark, Gibby pulls him for the left Jesse Carlsson—great, however on deck is the switch-hitting Nick Swisher and the right-hander Orlando Cabrera.

Needless to say I was lost—and Gibby just doesn't understand anything I think. He also uses a "closer by comittee" when BJ isn't ready—consisting of whichever combination of pitchers he wants to throw out there....

I love my team!

How would you feel about taking part in a "way-too-early" 2008 NFL Season Predictions piece? It would be a 5 or 6 part article which would break down the schedules of each team, 4 weeks at a time, and try to predict their records after 4 games, 8 games, 12 games, 17 games and playoffs.

I love McFadden and think he'll be great in our scheme, but someone needs to explain to me how adding a sixth running back when you ranked sixth in rushing the previous season is better than adding a defender when you only have 3 defensive ends and the second worst rushing defense.

Ps. Thank you for getting it with the Roy Halladay article. This frustrates me to no end that our fans can sit here and defend the fact that he wastes our bullpen like an idiot, and then just "expects" Roy to go 9 (or 8) innings. I get the fact that he's "used to throwing a lot". I don't think that justifies him doing so every game.

Don't feel bad...at least Eric Hinske only performed like a bench player for you guys and got an ill-advised World Series ring. At least he didn't win a R.O.Y award, give your franchise a promising future, then break his hand, then deteriorate as a third baseman to the point that he was useless as an outfielder, 1st baseman or 3rd baseman, leading to your team trading him to a division rival for nothing as they went on to win a championship.

Also, what's the deal with Eric Gagne only being effective in the NL? What a jackass...hahah (I think I'm kidding...I'm really not sure!)

The other great thing about Larry Izzo: No one will ever have names as cool as this linebacking core does now: Bruschi (yay beer!), Seau, Izzo, and Vrabel? I want this on some sort of plaque, or to get four friends and each have one of them get one of these jerseys. That's a life goal right there (Please don't tell my girlfriend haha).

We drafted Larry Izzo's replacement? Ugh...I'm torn—on one hand I have a guy who can replace Izzo on my special-teams lovefest once Larry leaves...on the other hand, I DONT WANT TO REPLACE LARRY IZZO....However, I like the depth we got at linebacker, and how there's potential all over the place. The cornerbacks are something I'm really excited to see develop. All in all, I'm glad I worked instead of watching the 1st round...It's nice to get a recap, but I couldn't sit through that!

Hey Sean...

I think you'd be surprised that not all of us in Raider Nation blindly follow Big Al. We definitely have mad respect for him and his legacy, but we often times question some of his decisions. You should check out the Raider Nation Board Room (http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=66#s=66&f=1887) we go back and forth with it.

As for the language issue. Honestly, I get a little bothered by it as well. When people go the route of the lowest common demoniator (e.g. swear spewing, name calling, etal), it just shows they are very reactionary people. I tend to not take that kind of bait too often, but that's just me. It could have something to do with my career, but that's a different story. Doesn't mean they are bad people, just ones who need to take a step back and formualte a coherent sentence. I don't think calling someone a name really solves much, but a logical debate, now that's more meaningful.

I do (mostly) enjoy reading other people's opinions. Where I do have issue(s) is when those opinions are based in very little fact.

Anyway, I'll try and check out some of your other stuff. But, keep in mind that I am an NFL gal. If it's not the NFL, I get pretty glossy-eyed.

I think my big issue with what you wrote and what other 'haters' continue to write is that you all seem to hate for the sake of hating. I just don't happen to be one of those who gets baited that easily by those who do it intentionally to get a rise out of the Nation.

I absolutely agree with what has no doubtedly been said by you and has been said in other posts that the Raiders have had a pretty hard time of it the past five seasons. But to smack on the loyal Raider Nation for what they wear and for supporting a team that hasn't done well of late, well that seems pretty hypocritical considering every team in the league has gone through some tough times. Ok, I highly doubt any other team's set of fans dress quite as crazy as some in the Nation, I can't explain the level of individual loyalty and obsession. I know I am not a face painter or costume wearer, but I know some that are. I embrace their energy and desire to dress up as they celebrate their favorite team. I think what it boils down to is people mock what they do not understand.

I invite you to come to a Raiders home game and see how much of a family we really are. I speak from experience, as I fly up to the games by myself and have been welcomes in many tailgates. I think you'd be pleasantly surprised that we're not all thugs and criminals.

There you have it, my long retort. Fair is fair.

Glad everything worked out, Sean--and that you learned your lesson about formatting with Word. Damn that Bill Gates.

W.r.t. the articles--I really liked the way they turned out. The comments/blurbs made for an engaging read...definitely a nice alternative to the conventional analysis you get with most mock draft pieces. I'd say the "forum" style is definitely one you should use again down the road if and when the situation calls for it (for division-by-division previews, maybe?).

Traffic looks pretty good so far. If you haven't already, you may want to get in touch with Trey Bradley about how to best spread the word on message boards/fan sites/etc.

My apologies for the formatting headaches. Jeff Gorman beat me on the editing punch...and everything looks ship-shape now. Out of curiosity, what make of browser are you using? Firefox generally provides the slickest interface, so a switch might save you future trouble (if you aren't already using it). Trying to import pre-formatted work from MS Word can also be problematic...so your best bet is always to add specific formatting features (BOLDed text, ordered lists, etc.) directly in the submission module itself.

Anyway--it turned out great, despite the hassle. Thanks again for leading the charge, and enjoy a well-deserved day of rest.

The article makes a lot of sense - lot of passion about the Bruins and how they screwed the fans.

The points you made about how Orr, Espo, Neely, Bourque, Thornton don't end their careers in Boston were bang on, and with the ownership not wanting to spend money, oh yeah.

And when I made comments about how stupid people were in Boston (sorry) for celebrating "Traitor" Bourque's Stanley Cup -- he brought it back to Boston -- I was ripped by quite a few people. That one, I never understood. Boston did NOT win the Cup; what were the people doing celebrating??? People say "well, it's cuz Bourque is like a native son for all those years in a B's uniform" but whatever, man.

Awesome take on a jaded ex-Bruins fan. Good stuff!

Well, I believe there are those who believe (Bryan Thiel, who you converse with frequently, is one) that one should include facts, stats, and numbers to back his/her opinion. I believe in that school of thought.

And I don't know what a lot of those whiners were talking about - cuz in places like Boston, Chicago, Florida, etc., attendance is a BIG problem. How anyone can claim that the NHL is thriving - and to compare it to baseball - is beyond me.

Oh yeah, the figures about TV ratings would be huge. I agree about the FOX thing, by the way. It was the best thing for them. It seems they were becoming like baseball with the FSN's carrying the games and on FOX Saturday - a far cry from the SportsChannel days. Now with VERSUS, it's back to the SpCH days once again.

Dumb on the NHL's part.

Tongue-in-cheekness is always hard to pull off--especially when your audience has a short fuse. That said, I certainly got what you were going for with the Raiders piece...and I wouldn't sweat the response. Like they say, you can't please all of the people all of the time, especially when Al Davis is involved. If nothing else, let it be a lesson that he who throws rocks at a hornets' nest had be ready for what's coming. And don't take it too personally, because Bay Area football fans are known to be a little on the touchy side. Just ask Kevan Lee:

No worries here. I knew what you were doing from the get-go. You were trying to get your tickets for the contest. I thought you did a great job, but since I am a Raider writer, and they were taking you seriously, I figured that I should mention I didn't agree with it. LMAO!!

After reading many of the comments, I'm thinking this 'contest' is going to backfire on BR. I didn't bother to think of the affect it would have on BR's average reader, and let's face it, Raider Nation has become a big part of that.

Raider Nation is here, because of people like myself who have become fed up with these types of attacks. You see, we get them in the mainstream media every day. I'm not going to sit over here and tell you that you deserve all of the attacks that you've received from Raider fans, because I don't feel that way.

I can't believe that people have actually threatened you. That's just uncalled for.

Again, don't worry about me. It has no bearing on our relationship in any way. We're cool.

Sean, there are two very important reasons why you got that type of response.

1. Raider fans are so pationate about our team. We have been "shit" upon by everyone in the media, including yourself. Yes, it's on the "humor" section, and it's meant to be cheeky, but we have had it. Other teams have had terrible years, but because our owner is the wipping boy of the leaugue (sometimes deserved, sometimes not), Raider fans always seem to get the worst.

The Raiders are rebuilding (again), Raider Nation wants to get into a dialogue of factual information on the progress (good or bad) of the team...and not into a "bs" rant about nothing..... we are sensitive, you better believe it...but above all, we care.

2. Your'e a senior writer, who probably takes pride in your work. So act like one...write compelling, thought provoking articles (the Buckner one was terrific!). Don't write trash...in fact, speak to the owners, and remove the humor side.

I decided to come to Bleacher for that reason....a like smack, but always based on a good article.

If Marv Levy and Jim Kelly had videotaped the other team's practices on superbowl week...well, the Buffalo Bills could have squeaked out at least three rings on a kicker's leg at the end of the game as well!

I wouldn't worry too much about it.....any group that has this much expendable time to waste on a 4-12 team that has been going in reverse for the past few years ought to get poked in the eye!!

I'm meeting with Dave - the founder of this site - next week here in NYC

Dude....it's hilarious because in their opinion, you suck, but in my opinion, you basically just won this competition with all of the Raider haters. That and the fact that they take stabs at you using stuff on your profile? People need to get a clue.

Maybe I should just post an article called "10 Reasons Why the Raiders Suck" write Al Davis as the body of the article, and then just leave it—we'll see what that gets me.
