McKinnie-Davis-Wis-Loper/Barksdale/Smiley/etc.-Veldheer ... like that line better than what we have now. it would be a good mix of long time vets that can still get it done and some young players... just what you need to work with. the REAL COMPETITION needs to be there. currently, Veldheer is the long ranger at LT since Henderson is over weight and not resigned. McKinnie is over weight as well, but he can get back into shape soon hopefully. the man hasn't missed a game to injury in his whole career with MIN ...
there's hope yet ... dude could really step in here and show these green horns somethin.. along with moving Veldheer to RT where he should start doing all his work at. he'll be solid as a mauling RT that faces the 2nd best pass rusher on the team. McKinnie will have a MUCH BETTER shot at handling Matthews and Peppers as he has some good experience against them the last 2 years. the year they were drafted he was invited to a probowl, only to skip out on practices and get scratched from the game. haha.
this off season has been a disaster. no doubt. it's made it that much worse. we thought all this year that things would get done once the lockout was lifted... ugh ... Kirk coming back to OAK is only talked about on B/R ... haven't heard anything since. he should be brought in for at least depth and competition... if he wins a starting job again, then HELL YES. he hasn't played with a front 7 like this in his whole career. i'm sure he would benefit from not being picked on all day long. he still has trouble getting off of blocks, but that's at MLB. who knows.
Tatupu left without a contract. he may be back, but i doubt it. he has many injury problems, despite making it to every game miraculously last season. Quentin Groves has grown in size and "stays at home more to make a tackle" ... he's gotten exceptionally better in camp, its very noticeable apparently. hopefully he can step it up. if not, maybe Goethel. OLB is a huge hole at this point as well. i really don't freakin know how Hue is going to pull this "BULLY" off in 2011.
Boss has caught 4 more TDs the last 4 years than Miller has. had similar numbers last year. Zach made it to a probowl .. wow... people that write this neglect to mention Dallas Clark and Antonio Gates were out with injuries... LOL. i've always admitted that even when he was on the Raiders. Anyway, Boss is a better blocker too ... i'm just worried about his price tag. if he can be had for a decent price(since no one else seems to want him, kind of curious?) ... then i'd say yes. maybe Al is waiting for Gaither to come back to spend the rest of the cap room on! YAY!
PS I really hate Al Davis.
for me, it's especially hard to see them making the playoffs with this shaky at best OL ... Veldheer hasn't proved to be a good pass blocker ... Peppers, Matthews, Wake, Dumvervil twice ... those are the main ones i'm afraid of. there's plenty more. we will need a TE like Kevin Boss(i wish) to stay back and help block
Routt BTW is not going to be the problem. it's the other side. Chris Johnson has been the best looking CB in camp ... lets hope that continues and they make a better than decent duo. we'll need it. as for the OL, Wand, Smiley, Heyer, Satele ?! cmon now. Leonard Davis needs to be the one brought in.
judging from the physical, it seems he was either way too far gone with his back issues, or he wanted too much for being still getting over his injuries still ... i would LOVE IT if he were to get healthy within the next month and come back to the Raiders for a smaller deal and just sit on the PUP list for a while ... i would take that. he is our only hope to a good LT before the season starts. as of now, Campbell could be in big trouble trying to sit in the pocket.
Al is cap strapped, there will be no splash besides the ones leaving. as shown by his lack of effort to keep Zach Miller ... you're not missing a whole hell of a lot dude ... this is a terrible off season.
