About

I'm a 2012 graduate of the Russell J. Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication at St. Bonaventure University. In addition to contributing to/editing for this fine website, I was a former sports editor associate editor at The Bona Venture, the campus newspaper. I had the privilege of covering the women's basketball team's rise into the public eye, covering both the 2010 and 2011 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Tournaments and Women's NIT.

I am a former NASCAR Featured Columnist for B/R and an alum of both the Writing and Copy Editing Internships. A lot has changed at B/R over the past few months, however, and I'm looking to start fresh.

I also write for Kicker, a news website geared towards the 14-to-24 demographic, and VolunTEEN Nation -- a website that spotlights volunteer opportunities for teenagers (imagine that!). Occasionally, I write on my personal blog: papaserge.wordpress.com

I currently reside in Jamestown, N.Y.-- yes, I'm from the home of Lucille Ball and current NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. As far as sports interests go, you can obviously find that on the "Short List" below. However, away from feeding my sports obsession, I am a huge classic rock fan and love comedy films.

Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Arian Foster, Chris Kluwe, Andrew Nicholson

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Indians, St. Bonaventure Bonnies

  • Favorite Coaches

Brian Billick, John Harbaugh, Mark Schmidt

  • All-Time Sports Moment

(tie)Ravens win Super Bowl XXXV over the Giants, Dale Earnhardt Jr. winning the 2001 Pepsi 400, St. Bonaventure defeating Xavier to win the 2012 A-10 title and return to the NCAA Tournament

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

(tie) 2012 Atlantic 10 Championship in Atlantic City, 2012 NCAA Tournament in Nashville

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

(tie) Richard Petty's 200 NASCAR Sprint Cup wins, Brett Favre's consecutive start streak

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays was a more complete player.

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Unitas.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan on stats, Russell on leadership

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Not a hockey fan.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Not a soccer fan.

  • Federer or Sampras?

    Not a tennis fan.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

    Nicklaus.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

It's hard to make a choice -- both were dominant in their respective eras. I'll take Petty.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Senna. Schumacher's numbers were inflated because he stuck around F1, and Ferrari's equipment was so dominant for most of his championships. We never got a chance to see the next chapter of Senna's career, even though I think he would have wound up in CART.

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Push for football, Neither for hoops -- I'm an A-10 guy.

Damn, thanks for spotting typos in my piece! I tend to not even check for them as it just isn't something I regularly do. Glad someone caught my slip-up. Maybe I'm tired or something? I don't know, but grateful anyway.

    Thanks for the feedback Ryan.

One question, how the heck do I add a link to a different article into my article like everyone else. That's one thing I've never been able to figure out.
