Bryan's Bio

Bryan has established his writing career both in journalism, and also in theater, as well as some work for various NHL rumor sites (Namely Insider Rumors). Entered into the Broadcast Television program at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario, he has had the opportunity to hone his skills as a scriptwriter, while publishing sports articles in his spare time.

Bryan (in the middle in the picture)hopes to become involved in sports on the broadcasting side of things in the near future, as well as keeping his writing going. Bryan's watched any and all sports since the age of four, and has an intimate understanding of the game of baseball as a level three umpire.

He's hosted the TV Program Conestoga Sports Couch, as well as a current host for CJIQ 88.3's the EndZone on Wednesdays in the Kitchener/Waterloo area at 6:00-6:30 pm.

Bryan is also a Bleacher Report NHL Community Leader—questions or comments? Just ask! Simply fire me an Email at bryanthiel74@hotmail.com, add me on Facebook (The Bryan Thiel from London, Ontario—where you can also read some of my earlier work) or just post a note here on my bulletin board!

Also, for NHL writers concerned about not having their work looked at by an editor, you can also fire me a line and I'll be more than happy to take a look for you—that's what I'm here for!

The Short List facts and information about Bryan Thiel

Favorite Athletes

Howie Clark, Kevin Millar (I don't get it either), Wes Welker, Darcy Tucker, Mats Sundin, Asdrubal Cabrera, Joe Inglett, John Pohl

Favorite Sports Teams

Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Toronto Maple Leafs/Jays/Raptors, San Diego Padres

All Time Sports Moment

Catching Roy Halladay come within one out of a no-hitter against the Tigers on the final day of the '98 season and watching Bobby Higginson take him deep. I also got to see McGowan's near no-hitter against the Rockies this past season, and any time the Yankees or Sox come to town—it's simply electric.(I just kind of extended the "Game Attended" thing. My all-time sports moment would either be Canada's 2002 Gold Medal, Super Bowl XLII, Martin Gelinas ending the Leafs greatest cup run in years in OT in 2002 (Game 6), and then Darcy Tucker killing Sami Kapanen but having Jeremy Roenick go down the ice and score on the same play. Toronto is like Boston pre-2001—not a lot of great memories.

Most Memorable Game Attended

The London Knights record-breaking unbeaten streak to open the season game (um...nice sentence) in 2004/05. It was 0-0 in OT so fans just got fed up and chucked teddy bears on the ice (it was the teddy bear toss game, so it was great).

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hit streak or Ripken/Favre's iron man streaks. Dimaggio's streak is simply unbelievable, and if anyone ever breaks it I would hope it's a sure-fire Hall of Famer—not a shmuck.

Ruth or Mays?

Babe Ruth—he loved to be fat and drunk.

Unitas or Montana?

I've seen more highlights of Montana, and I've also heard more about him. Looking at Unitas' stats, he looks to have had an astounding career, but being more familiar with Montana, I'd go with him.

Jordan or Russell?

Jordan—Space Jam baby...

Gretzky or Orr?

Incomparable....the greatest defenseman of all time compared to the greatest forwrad of all time. If I had to take one, it'd be Orr, because what he did as a defenseman is a bit more impressive, but I choose to appreciate both.

Pele or Maradona?

Um...I don't watch soccer...(I thought it said "Madonna" at first) but if I had to go on reputation? Pele.

Federer or Sampras?

I'm leaning towards Pistol Pete, but Federer isn't out of the running yet.

Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger—who the hell else tears their ACL and wins a Major Championship?

Petty or Earnhardt?

I never really watched racing...but wasn't Dale Earnhardt's career much longer?

Schumacher or Senna?

Michael Schumacher? If it is him, then I choose him. I don't know the other guy. Does Kimi Raikonen count?

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

If by ACC you mean Air Canada Centre then you have my answer.

  1. Hey Bryan...can you contact me!

    The Captain

  2. my bad its
    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/64673-potential-starting-line-up-for-the-st-louis-blues

  3. hey when you get a chance you mind reading my new article and maybe editing it for me thanks
    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/64673-p...-st-louis-blues

  4. Just joshin' ya a bit'.. been waiting a long time for you to get to the northeast. I agree wholeheartedly that 2,3,4 are wide open; and probably even 1 too. There are so many IF's, and you've got a whole heck of a lot of talent with the Bruins, the Sens and the Sabres; it's going to depend on how well they play, and how hard they get hit with the injury bug.

Can't wait for the season to get started for real (preseason hockey just irritates me). As far as I know, I won't be seeing your Leafs play at HSBC this year, but I will be seeing the match up against Boston in mid-October.

Thanks for the great reads; and I look forward to more of your insight throughout the season.

    Brenda

  5. BT-

Could you look over my latest Q&A with Tim Sassone:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/64001-michael-wagners-chicago-blackhawks-qa-series-tim-sassone

I noticed that when you read over my John Buccigross article you were hoping for more elaboration and I think that Sassone really provides that.

    Thank you BT

    Michael

  6. Ahaha damn!!! No more corny headlines!!!!!!!!!! Lol jk, use them sparingly, though...

  7. Ryan looks capable of a second line place, especially with Teemu back in the mix. Brunnstrom contributes assists, but no goals that I've taken notice of. So far the Stars have won one game of four (i think). So im quite worried...right now Stephan looks a little weak when in the starting role.

  8. how are the Leafers looking in preseason?

  9. No worries-- Richmond was sent back to the minors earlier this week, along with Connor James.
I sent my thoughts on your preview out to you just now.

  10. B,

That's bizarre—I can't imagine how "Preseason Thoughts" could have snuck into your archive. Whatever the cause, I've deleted it...but please let me know if you ever encounter any more of these mystery articles, and I'll get our development on the case if need be.

Hope life is good on your end,

    Ryan

  11. Hey BT, I'd like your thoughts on my Bob Cole article. Cheers.

  12. BT,
Something weird is happening with BR tonight. I can't publish a new article, it just makes the article I just composed a revision of my most recent previous article... any thoughts??

    -Eric

  13. Looking forward to it BT...

  14. Sounds good, man. I'll keep an eye out for it. You know I'm about as Penguin-biased as they come and I'm already taking heat for it on my most recent Pens-Leafs recap. Come to think of it, it's still the preseason, huh? It's gonna be a fun year!

    Have a good one,
    -Eric

  15. Eh, take whatever shots you like at me, BT. I will be back. With weapons...of verbal destruction. Okay that was strange. Anyhoo, you enjoy the fact that I'm "drinking" in my Athlete of the Year picture? I thought it was hilarious, as long as the NCAA doesn't find it and suspend me from my team haha
