Thanks for the input - but please don't turn this into a race or religion issue. Understand that while my suggestion is to increase the demographics of American born players in the league, its not to fully omit Europeans. Just lessen the percentage. And again, I am not suggesting they are not worthy opponents, I am merely stating what could benefit the NHL, because cleary since the NHLs influx of Europeans, the league has suffered.
Ontop of that, it is obvious where you stand on your opinion of Americans - and I do not intend to get into some classless internet shouting match over it. While the Canadians are vastly superior in the great game of hockey, Lafontaine could have out skated any of them. No he isn't Gretzky, Orr, Howe, or Lemieux - but he's damn close. And I'll put my 1980 Olympic team up against any club anyday.
My point is, that since the NHL is based in the USA, the product needs to sell to its consumer, and right now the product doesn't sell here. Call it what you want, but the league office has to change that as they are at a vital time in the leagues history. And unless they move the league to Europe, their consumer base is the United States.
Last, while the US has its issues with race, religion and such, don't drag that into the arguement - for sloth and NASCAR is not why hockey is unsuccesful, for both those factors were around 20 years ago when hockey was the #2 sport in this country (albeit baseball was on strike, and the NFL was filled with cocaine).
The reason is: the product doesn't generate consumers on the level it used to. And being that I love the sport and gave the first 18yrs of my life to it, I plan on helping fix it. For the issue is Bettman, not Americans.
So as Oddball said, "What's with all these negative waves... "
