Michael Turner was born in Herrin, Illinois. Like most boys in Southern Illinois, Michael came into the world a full-fledged St. Louis Cardinal fan who would be disowned - even as a small child - if he professed to be a Chicago Cubs fan. Cardinal baseball on the radio was the soundtrack to his childhood. A common complaint in the Turner household was that Michael listened to Jack Buck far more than he listen to his father.
Michael is proud to be a 3rd generation SIU Saluki. He graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University's Radio-Television Department - a famed factory of media talent in the Midwest as well as Nationally. He worked in college as Sports Announcer and Feature Producer at WSIU-FM in Carbondale, IL. He also served as Sports Sales Manager at KTUC-AM in Tucson, Arizona. Fatherhood pushed him away from his media career in a desperate attempt at being a good provider. Later, Michael could be found in a different - but still important - facet of Sports Journalism. He was a bartender at Unicorn Sports Lounge in Tucson. The recent economic downturn prematurely ended that successful career in 2009.
