Paul has yet to fill out a bio.
Hey Paul not a problem I love talking Bama pigskin with anyone, especially fellow Crimson Tide brethern.
We are both agreed that Smart will not jump at just any HC job that opens up. We disagree on where and thats cool. I see where you're coming from about the DC job at UGA. However I disagree with you because whether or not he would be making more cash, it's still a lateral move. Thats what I don't understand about Lance Thompson. He's moving around the country for lateral moves. That's not (Kirby) smart (lol).
In the next two years there may be 3 HC jobs that open up at UGA, Tennessee and Clemson.
Richt may survive this year and maybe next, but as I have previously stated he is one 7-5 season away from getting the boot. Murray will be going to NFL after next season and his talented defenders have only a couple of seasons of eligibility left. What happens next?
Yes Yabbo Dabo Swinney won the ACC championship, but he got waxed 70-33 in the Orange bowl and is currently owned by the Ol' Ball coach. Clemson has alot of talent but I have more faith in Floyd Mayweather saying something intelligent than in Swinneys ability to coach up his talent. Towards the end of the season Clemson always pulls a Clemson.
I think we both feel the pulse of the SEC to know that the fans and boosters at Rocky Top are not going to tolerate being bottom feeders much longer. If in the next 2 years Dooley doesn't turn this thing around or show some progress he's getting thrown off of Rocky Top even if his daddy is the great Vince Dooley.
What we do agree on is if he stays around Saban untill the man retires he will have soaked up enough football and preparation knowledge to take over and Alabama football not miss a beat. I've always believed Smart was a HC in waiting ever since the 1st NC run. It's true Saban has taken him under his wing and could be grooming a successor.
This has been fun Paul
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. No I didn't ask you but as a fellow member of CrimsonNation your two cents are always welcome in my circle.
I have two thoughts on Smart myself. Obviously he does want to be a head football coach. When McElwain left for Colorado St I scratched my head because I felt Smart would leave 1st. McElwain leaving is the orgin of my question because coaches at Bama have a pretty good turnover ratio for better jobs.
My two thoughts on Smart are he will wait for Saban to retire in the next 5 to 7 years and become the next coach at Capstone or once UGA finally gets the gump to fire Richt he goes there. Smart played at UGA and it's no surprise he recruits really well there. I think which ever one happens 1st will be the deciding factor.
Now you and I both know Richt is just one more 7-5 season away from getting the boot. A darkhorse is Clemson. Yabbo Dabo Swinney is one more ass kicking from South Carolina away from being booted.
So what do you think of my analysis?
Paul, I am going to give up on B/R ever getting back to me. If you figure it out, let me know. I am a bit disappointed with B/R these days; some of the articles are edited very poorly and/or have cute titles just to get comments.
Paul, I still haven't heard back from B/R. I might reach out to some of the Bama FC's. Stay tuned!
Paul, you are most welcome. Hopefully, they'll email me back.
Paul, I sent an email to B/R about the question you posted on my Wall. I will let you know what they say. Best wishes!
Hey Paul, I was wondering the same thing! I think it was me who liked one of your last comments! :-) Maybe we should email BR?
Thank you for the "fan vote"!
Paul, we "watch football" the same way: watch the same game over and over. My dad and I watched every game on Saturday. We would have multiple TVs on sometimes (back in the day). He would literally draw up formations and plays so I could understand. He taught me a bunch. I also like watching the play develop and see what kind of instincts the players have. It's fun to see which defensive player can read it first! Will talk football with you any time!
Thanks for the nice words on my reply to that article...my dad taught me all about football, including how to "break it all down" and draw up the X's and O's. Looking forward to talking football with you here on BR. Best wishes!
