Isaac's Bio

I am a sophomore at John F. Kennedy High School. I have played 3 sports in organized leagues. I played JV Football last season, I'm a quarterback. I played baseball in BCC from about age 10-13. I played basketball in the YES League in 2007. I enjoy watching sports, playing sports, writing about sports. My favorite team is the Baltimore Orioles. I also like the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Wizards. I despise the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals. Even though I hate the Yankees to death, I have some Yankee fan friends. My favorite players are Jeremy Guthrie, Troy Smith and Chris Paul. My favorite athlete of all time is Cal Ripken and possibly Jim Palmer. I'm 15 years old, probably the only one here at that age. I have been a sports guy since 1998, when I was 5! Then, I liked the 'Boys. I started liking my current favorite team, the Ravens. I mostly write about baseball, but I'll crank out an occasional Ravens or Terps article. Anyways, I want to go off to college and major in journalism, just like everyone else here. I love it here and hope to be a senior writer someday.

I don't like to argue with my readers, but I will state my case. If it's something I need to edit, I will correct my flaw. If it is based on opinion, I'll state my case against yours.

My ultimate goal is to write for ESPN.com, MLB.com, SI.com or Y!sports.com as a baseball writer.

Happily they have, but I woulda said yes considering the way Lester has been pitching lately.

I very honestly, and not in a taunting way, feel bad for your Orioles. I work with an Orioles fan, and I was saying, even though they have some nice prospects, it's pretty much just unfair to have the Sox, Yankees, and Rays all in the division, not to mention a pretty good Jays team.

It will never be easy to make a run like the Dodgers did this year, at least not for a while. At least you also got the Phils to root for.

Me, personally? Well I am from Texas so I'm true blue Cowboys, but I love a lot of other teams too. Most importantally I can't stand dynasties. I find it sad that so many great players retire without rings cause of dynasties. I can stand multiple championships if the rosters are almost completely different

I would be happy to see these teams win the Super Bowl:
1 Cowboys. For Texas Stadium, so it goes out on a win
2 Chicago Bears. I love Chicago, don't know why
3 Arizona Cardinals. Kurt Warner is my favorite player right now at quarterback and Edgerrin James deserves a ring.
4 Baltimore Ravens. I love Ray Lewis. He is my role model. He is, in my opinion, the best all-around middle linebacker to play the game of football and he is modest too. Also, except for Ray, Stover, and I think McCallister, the Ravens roster does not have any rings. I love great defenses like the Ravens.

Those don't go in any order really except Cowboys first.

I loathe the Steelers cause they think are all that since they had 4 Super Bowls and really, Bradshaw wasn't really good. I love some of the players but I hate that Pittsburgh says they were better than Dallas when really those Super Bowls could go either way any day.

Hey, I'm short on fans and friends, and if Sean likes you, then you are cool in my book.

I'm sorry if this is TMI or whatever but you sound like a very well-thought analyst and I need friends like that.

PS I plan to write more on Baltimore, Dallas, Chicago, and some other stuff so keep checking. I want to make this my career and with guys like you and Sean reading my stuff, I'll get there.

Another tough, defensive matchup for the Ravens. I think this one will come down to how much pressure the Titans put on Flacco and if he can continue to deal with it. If they ease off of him and focus more on stopping the run, he could lead the team down for a few scores. If they constantly sack him or put too much pressure on him to pass, the Titan D could easily pick off a few passes and turn them into TDs. I hate to say it, but I think the Titans take this one. What do you think?

Northern California (explains my parents' team affiliations). I live in a place where we're more renown for our pot and our drastic weather changes. Classic Raider fan breeding ground I'll tell ya what. Yay let's all smoke till our brain cells are fried and then beat the hell out of fans of the visiting teams. I can't even go to football games anymore, I feel like if I wear my team's jersey I'll get jumped. Hopefully your town's a bit better.

I've been in the process of becoming a correctional officer since I graduated in 07 and recently got told I failed my pysche exam (a series of tests that determine whether or not you have the correct pysche to handle being a prison guard). Now my name has been taken off the list and I can scratch the last year of my life off as worthless. When the next round of classes start at the local college I'm going to take some writing classes and see what I can do about chasing my dreams. How's school going for you?

I am, they're my favorite team in the AFC. Giants are my overall favorite team though, have been since I started followng football back in 2002. Haha, yeah, Jeter is the only one I can think of that's playing right now! But some of the younger players like David Wright, Jose Reyes, Troy Tulowitzki, Cole Hamels, Francisco Liriano--they could stay on their teams for their entire career, but who knows. They might succumb to the almighty dollar and leave.

My thinking has always been this: kids who play sandlot ball don't play for money. College kids without scholarships don't play for money. Most of the players in MLB today play for money. There's no doubt that they all love the game, but I think they also love their hefty paychecks, too.

It's inherited for me--I was born into Yankee fandom. But I know what you mean---I hate fans that are stupid, too--but you get that everywhere, not just Yankee fans. Trust me, I've seen some really nasty Red Sox fans! But I've also met cool Red Sox fans, too, so I think you get it in any fanbase.

As for the money...well, it's sadly a huge part of the game right now, and in this era. I was talking with some of the students at my College earlier this year about how "nobody's a real anything anymore"--like, is A-Rod a real Yankee? Free Agency, more money, and larger contracts just took over. Like Derek Jeter--he'll always be a real Yankee. Cal Ripken, Jr.--Forever an Oriole. But nowadays, players that stay on one team for their whole career are so rare.

Good question. Obviously your writing total is off the charts, but there are two areas where you are sorely lacking compared with the current MLB Top Writers:

# of fans
# of comments written

Start getting more involved in the threads and writing on more people's bulletin boards so they add you as a fan. Also, not a bad idea to try and get other people you know (friends, family) to sign up and make you their fan.

The rosters were done in excel on a spreadsheet and I just saved them as a published htm file.

The rest was pretty much all blogger and a little HTML knowledge.

Not sure I have an answer for ya Isaac. Haha, Zander asked me to be one for the Indians section awhile ago and now the MLB. I'm just happy to help out the site in anyway. If you have an interest in doing it for the Baltimore section the best advice I could give you is to write about your team, respond and comment to other articles in the section to get conversation started, and do your best to get some fresh faces in and writing about your team.

Plenty of people are making moves doing radio shows using PodCast...they dial in by phone and go out over the air. A college friend of mine is on one in WV called Yakking Yankees and he asked me to get in on it. I passed on it for now b/c I am too busy with work-work, who know - some day maybe... I have to research whats out there before making a move like that...

Hey, I just read on of your articles and went to look at your profile. You have quite an impressive number of articles written on a variety of topics. I am 16, and I just joined this website a few months ago. I just like reading and commenting, and I haven't had the time to write anything. I actually used to hate writing, until i got to college. Go figure. I really enjoy writing and even editing at times. I have written for the school paper and few small local ones, it is a lot work, but if you love sports, then it is totally worth it.

It's definitely a really good place to go to school if you are interested in a career in journalism. A lot of kids from all over the country go there just for the J-school. Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Ah, OK. If I were you, I would write longer articles. The B/R staff looks at quality of writing as a part of their criteria for deeming someone a Senior Writer, not just by the numbers. Keep it up though, man!
