About

My name is Teresa Roca and I am a journalism and english major at Baruch college.

When I tell people I am a journalism major at Baruch they all ask the same question, " isn't that a business school?" The school has a small program dedicated to the arts. Despite that I feel with my skill and passion for journalism I can get enough resources from this college and go forth on a successful career.

The Yankees and the Rangers are the two teams that have helped fulfill my passion for sports.

It was the antics of Sean Avery on April 13th, 2008 that made me want to become a sports writer. Everyone bullied and hated him for "cheating" in the play off games but I saw his act as one of devotion and dedication to his team. I wrote an article for my speech class, persuading them to believe that despite all the trouble Avery has gotten himself into over the years, he is a contributive player to the Rangers. They were persuaded.

From since I could remember the Yankees have always been the main focus of my life. Between all the of the recorded games and alerts on my phone I make sure to never miss an update.

Now I know this is going to sound cliche, and some of you are probably going to stop reading after this point, but my favorite player on the team is yes, Derek Jeter. Im not going to defend why he is my favorite player on the team but i will say this, growing up throughout the years I have watched Derek play and not only improve as a player, but as an inspirational leader for the Yankees.

i have written articles for my college newspaper and somewhere between the interviews and the writing I knew I was making the right decision going into journalism and most importantly sports.

One would think that a journalism major would know to capitalize 'English'...

You may want to change the "soon to be" on Jeter's 3,000 hits, just saying. It also isn't a MLB record, but I don't want to knock our same favorite player...or you.

    Hey Teresa,

I just joined Bleacher Report as a writer a few days ago and I think I will more likely than not be writing about the Yankees primarily. I saw you were a featured columnist and I wondered if you had any advice as I get started.

Also, I don't know how many people actually remembered but today is the 1 year anniversary of George Steinbrenner's death and I wrote an article about it.

    Check it out:
