Alex 's Bio

I'm Alex, I'm from London, and I have a job as a journalist. About insurance. If there's anything that can drive the person truly mad, it's years of writing about insurance. Trust me. I know.
But my biggest love is sports. In the UK I love my soccer teams, but I have my big American passions: baseball and football. Sure, I can deal with the odd NBA game and March Madness, as well as a bit of the NFL, but give me Ken Griffey's swing and a Penn State White Out any day of the week.
So here I am. I have a blog - The View From North America - http://viewfromnorthamerica.blogspot.com that I hope you'll look at at some point.
Oh, and I also have a column on the UK's biggest commercial website, Sky Sports. Here's the link: http://www.skysports.com/opinion/0,25219,16560,00.html

Thanks for reading my profile. Hopefully you'll actually read some of my articles!

Alex Writes About

The Short List What Alex thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

Michael Robinson, Joe Paterno, Ken Griffey Jr, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Joba Chamberlain, Manny Ramirez, Wayne Gretzky, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio,

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Penn State, New York Yankees, Queens Park Rangers FC,

  • Favorite Coaches

Joe Paterno, Joe Paterno, Joe Paterno

  • All Time Sports Moment

Michigan loses at home to Appalachian State, 2007, Yankees with the Series in 1996, Aaron Boone in the ALCS vs the Red Sox, Penn State vs Ohio State 2005, going to Bristol Motor Speedway on a big night in August, QPR getting promotion at Sheffield Wednesday

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Being in the middle of the Penn State vs Ohio State game in 2005, in the "White Out". Also David Well's perfect game at Yankee Stadium; 2003 ALCS (THAT Aaron Boone Game vs Boston); the day baseball came back after 9/11 at Fenway Park; going to my first college football game (ASU vs Stanford - ASU wins in overtime)

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe DiMaggio. Oh, and if we're talking the days of non-juice, Bonds' home run record. And Wayne Gretzky's too....

  • Ruth or Mays?

Ruth, of course. Though I'd take Mays' glove over Ruth's anytime!

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana. Actually screw them both. Give me Brady or Peyton Manning anytime.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Michael Jordan of course! Is there any question?

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky - by a mile. Wish I could have seen either of them play....

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele. Also Ronaldinho before he put on all the weight - he moves are breathtaking. I also worship David Beckham's right foot. Especially when taking a penalty against Argentina.

  • Federer or Sampras?

Federer. He may have lost the Wimbledon Final against Nadal, but he was incredible. I like him a lot.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. He wins trophies will standing on one leg. Speaking of golf, I'd like to choose Europe's Ryder Cup golf team.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Earnhardt. Petty's a nice guy though - I've met him. Also give me Mark Martin, a really, really decent advertisement for NASCAR

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Senna - most exciting driver of them all. Look at Mansell vs Senna at Monte Carlo (1991) for details

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

SEC and Big Ten. PSU play in the Big Ten, but the SEC's so, so much fun to watch. A perfect mix of pass and run. For girls? The Pac-10!
