Paul's Bio

Is it better to be loved than to be feared, or the contrary. I reply that one should like to be both one and the other: but since it is difficult to join them together, it is much safer to be feared than to be loved when one of the two must be lacking. For one can generally say this about men: that they are ungrateful, fickle, simulators and deceivers, avoiders of danger, greedy for gain; and while you work for their good they are completely yours, offering you their blood, their property, their lives, and their sons, when danger is far away; but when it comes nearer to you they turn away. And that prince who bases his power entirely on their words, finding himself stripped of other preparations, comes to ruin; for friendships that are acquired by a price and not by greatness and nobility of character are purchased but are not owned, and men are less hesitant about harming someone who makes himself loved than one who makes himself feared because love is held together by a chain of obligations which, since men are a sorry lot, is broken on every occasion in which their own self-interest is concerned; but fear is held together by dread of punishment which will never abandon you.

  1. Good to hear from you Paul. I'm a little torn as far as the draft goes. Jones is a nice RB but Mendenhall was ranked higher and we passed on him. Immediately after we picked Jones the Steelers took Mendenhall. Could be like Taking Julius Jones over Stephen Jackson a few years back. We got the corner we wanted in addition to Pacman so that's good.

I'm very nervous about Pacman. He's a tremendous talent but he's a scumbag who can't stay out of trouble. He can definitely make a difference on the field but there are a lot of strip clubs in Dallas. I understand why Jerry would take the risk, Pacman is that good, but it could explode in his face. Can't wait till training camp. Hope you're doing well.

  2. Been in hibernation since the Super Bowl...this is the time known as the great depression for me as there is no football until the draft at the end of April and even then it's still three months before training camp begins. I do get into the NBA some but it's not football and I'm not a baseball guy until the playoffs start. What have you been up to?

  3. Hey Paul,

I just wanted to let you know that Bleacher Report has launched out of beta with an updated look and feel and some great new features. Check out the "Game On" link in the header to find out more.

Next week we'll be launching the site to the world with some public announcements—and it'd be great to get a contribution from you between now and Tuesday to make Bleacher Report's launch a success.

Let me know if you need any help with ideas or have questions. Have a great weekend Paul!

  4. I might watch the Super Bowl but just because of the party and maybe a wager or three. It definitely won't be an enjoyable game to watch though.

  5. Starting to come out of this fog...slowly

  6. Haha, can't win all of them. But thanks, Paul, I appreciate it.

  7. I've been avoiding media and humanity in general. To make matters worse I was at the game so my nuts haven't fully recovered from that kick. Booze does help though especially after the last two days. It's been awful in Dallas. The weather is bad, people are pissy with each other. Doesn't seem real yet.

  8. Is that beer guy that got all pissed off for real is he pulling some kind of bit? That can't be real. There can't be people that stupid...can there Paul?

  9. Can't tell yet. Like you said if the money is good that's one thing but to go to a bottom feader like Miami says you care nothing about winning in the short term. I don't think Jerry will let any key personnel go. I'm still giving thanks to Kyle Orton. Having these three weeks off for TO is immeasurable.

  10. Going to be doing a live blog of the game to keep some friends around the country updated. Should be good for a couple of laughs. Watch my spelling and attitude get worse as I drink more.

  11. Couldn't have said it better or more passionately...it must be a destruction...I just worry about Proctor early...everything else spells blowout...Peppers is doubtful so the pass rush will truly be null and void....

  12. Agree with you Paul on pass rush...that was one of my keys to the game in my write up...Gurode's importance will never be felt as much as it will be tomorrow...you'd think that with Peppers and Rucker the Panthers would have a higher sack total....

  13. Paul, I'm right there with you...by no means do I think that secondary is playoff ready yet...I've mentioned it so often in the past it feels redundant which is probably why I didn't mention it here...I am ever cautious though which is why I think about next week more than next month....the Packers do have good receivers so I'm not surprised they moved the ball...........but yes definitely agree I think they could be the Achilles heel in the playoffs....need to keep Newman healthy and keep Roy OUT of coverage...also with you when it comes to over stressed.....excellent points...look foward to talking with you more....
