So how did I personally get into this fandom we call NASCAR? I honestly don’t remember a specific place and time; I just started watching it and liked the excitement of it and all that was going on at one time. It didn’t hurt that the men participating in the sport weren’t half bad looking either. (I’m a woman, can you blame me?)

It was 2006 and my boyfriend and I were living together and watching a lot of TV on the weekends to keep from going out to the bar or restaurant and spending our paychecks away. He watched NASCAR every weekend and I chastised him for it,

“How in the heck can you watch cars drive around in circles for hours on end?” That is honestly how I felt.

But what kind of horrible girlfriend would I be if I forced him to change the channel and watch “Spongebob Squarepants” with me? A very stereotypical one, so I did what I do best, I sat down next to him and watched cars drive around in circles for hours. It grew on me like a fungus.

First the liking turned into, “Oh I love the sound of fast cars zooming past and the camera shaking from the wind gusts” then it was “Kasey Kahne is pretty cute!” to “What time is the race on Sunday because I do not want to make any other plans and miss watching it!” to “How does the points system work?” It took me an entire race season to overcome my denial and realize I was hooked on watching it. So the story begins…
