All Time Sports Moment
Sorry, I can't pick just one. I'll try to work up a Top 10 or Top 20. A future article, perhaps?
Most Memorable Game Attended
None really jump out. I saw a vintage Pedro Martinez start in 2000, where he pitched a 2-hitter and struck out 15. That was impressive to behold.
Most Unbreakable Sports Record
Cy Young's 511 wins
Ruth or Mays?
Ruth. Mays has the edge on defense and speed, but Ruth may have been able to make the Hall of Fame as a pitcher. Oh, and he could hit a little, too.
Unitas or Montana?
Unitas. Nothing against Montana, 4 Super Bowl wins are impressive. However, the West Coast offense and the presence of Jerry Rice helped his stats out quite a bit.
Jordan or Russell?
Jordan. Russell was a great champion and is underappreciated as a player, but Jordan was one of a kind. (Although his performance running the Bobcats is tarnishing the reputation a bit.)
Gretzky or Orr?
Gretzky. It's a little hard to compare a defenseman and a center, but Gretzky put up some numbers that just look ludicrous on paper.
Pele or Maradona?
Pele. I'm not going to be writing a lot about football/soccer. But Pele.
Federer or Sampras?
Hey, it's the tennis legends that can't win the French Open! (Although Federer surely would have one if it weren't for that meddling Rafael Nadal.) I will stick with Sampras as better for now, with the caveat that I believe Federer will pass him.
Tiger or Nicklaus?
Tiger. I realize at this point, Jack still has the lead in both major wins and tournament wins. However, Jack compiled his 18 majors over a span of 24 years (18 years if you disregard the '86 Masters). Tiger is now within 4 majors, and he has done it in just 11 years. Jack also can't match the Tiger Slam.
Petty or Earnhardt?
Petty. I have no further comments on stock car racing.
Schumacher or Senna?
Schumacher. I have no further comments on racing, period.
Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?
Right now? The SEC for football. Basketball's a little more difficult. I'll give it to the Big East, but it wins mostly on depth, as most of the truly elite programs are elsewhere.
