About

Probably not that different from a lot of people on here. I've always had a lot of people telling me I should write, the odd thing presents itself every so often, but that aside, I just sort of presume I'll get round to having a proper go at it at some point.

So, my sports credentials? United Fan/borderline encyclopaedia, stadium anorak, amateur statto, I could claim to being a 'properly' published sports writer - but it was a one-off thing for a Canadian sports paper during Euro '96.

Writing? Well, I'm incredibly picky about correct spelling, punctuation and grammar - but we all make typos, don't we? I have opinions and I'm not afraid to use them. I like to read well-considered articles or editorials, especially those where the primary act of covering the story itself almost becomes secondary, behind the wider conclusions it invites the reader to draw about life or more 'important' issues. Did I make that sound unpretentious? Maybe not but I hope you get the meaning.

Short List

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Manchester United (Football), Wigan RLFC (Rugby League)

  • All-Time Sports Moment

"And Solskjaer has won it! Manchester United reach the promised land" The Treble. 1999.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Not sure I can answer that. I can list hundreds of moments and maybe I can refine that to one, but one game? Not really.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Joe Paterno's tenure as head coach of a major sports team?

  • Ruth or Mays?

Not really qualified to answer that one.

  • Unitas or Montana?

    Ditto

  • Jordan or Russell?

Who's heard of the Nike Russell?

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Oh come on. There are other nationalities, you know!

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Easy. Pelé.

  • Federer or Sampras?

I'm going to say Federer because in Nadal he has better competition.

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger. When he wins his last major, that will be the next most impossible record to break.

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

    Not for me to say.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

I really really want to say Senna over Schuey because it would represent victory of instinct over calculation. Unfortunately, you can't argue with the record books on this one...

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Sorry, even though I do understand the question, it doesn't mean I can give an answer.
