Hi y'all. I'm a 20-year old college student at Rice University. I have been actively writing about sports for five years with a focus in college football, tennis, golf, horse racing, and folkstyle wrestling. I am currently working on a freelance piece about the 1969 Texas Longhorns football team that I'm hoping to complete by September 2008. I have some other side projects about racial integration of college football at University of Texas, Baylor, Houston, Rice, and North Texas that I am willing to expand if anyone is interested. I am also writing a piece on the 1983 Jockey Club Gold Cup for an October release.

Retired Australian tennis player Wayne Arthurs is my hero. His matches have helped me pull through some of my lower moments.

College sports are greater than professional sports, but you already knew that.

Finally, I am a frequent contributor to Gregg Doyel's weekly Hate Mail column on CBSSports.com. 85 percent of the time, you are bound to find one of my emails in his mailbag. Seriously, check it out.

Please visit my website, TommyWestAward.blogspot.com!

Again, please direct all inquiries to b-s-d-9-8-7-@-g-m-a-i-l-.-c-o-m without the "-." I have included these to avoid automated spammers from picking up my address.

  4. Burton,

Trust you are doing well and keeping the faith.

So great to hear from you after such a long time. They hardly took attention in the past of such events, atleast now, the new internet age is helping to give it atleast this much of a focus.

    Bests,
    Sarah

  7. dude

are you OK - you vanished ... wanted to check in with you

play the tennis game with us ... check the page

  8. I once got to see him play against Tommy Haas in an exhibition match at Nick Boliterri Tennis Academy. You're right, he wasn't the most naturally gifted athlete however he was all grit....I see a little of that in his fellow countryman Lleyton Hewitt, not particularly talented but extremely tenacious......as for Fulmer, I've been a detractor for a couple of years but as much of a so-so on the field coach that he is, he makes up for it with his recruiting, not to mention he is a fantastic person, just a stand-up guy. Hope you can change your allegiance!

  9. Call him slimy, call him cocky, call him evil but Bruce Pearl is just beginning his takeover of the country in the basketball world....I'm a huge tennis guy, what is it about Wayne Arthurs that has inspired you if I may ask? .....oh and go Vols

  10. i was just reading your profile and i have to say i think it's awesome that you are such and active contributor to doyel's hate mail column. i hate that guy. i think i've emailed him twice and have absolutely no idea if my mail made it into the column b/c i forgot to check. i don't really care, b/c he's a tool.
