I grew up in the 1970s transfixed by the utter badness of the Mets while the Yankees dominated everything. (Sound familiar?) Only back then Joe Torre managed the Mets. Nooooooooooooo! Skipped a few days in college to witness the 1986 Mets in postseason. If I'd know it would be so long a wait for another championship, I would have failed out and gone to Games 6 and 7.
After working at newspapers and putting together sports encyclopedias--Total Baseball and Total Football--plus ESPN versions of same--started writing books, often on the Mets: Shea Goodbye (with Keith Hernandez), Mets by the Numbers (with Jon Springer), 100 Things Mets Fans Should Know and Do Before They Die (now in paperback), Mets Essential, The Miracle Has Landed, and Maple Street Press Mets Annual (co-editor of last two).
