About

I'm a baseball fan from Seattle, and primarily ONLY a baseball fan. I can't really explain it; but if a clock or timer is involved, I generally don't give the sport much attention...which eliminates several of them. I've followed the M's since their inception in 1977, and while I loved Edgar Martinez' hitting and Yankee-killer abilities, I detest the DH...what irony, huh?

That being said, I'm more a fan of the National League style...which means I like speed, defense, and pitcher's duels. I'll take small ball and a 1-0 game over a 5 HR softball slugfest any day of the week.

Other teams of interest to me are the Red Sox and D-backs. I was a charter season ticket holder for Arizona when I lived there and saw Games 2 & 7 of the 2001 WS. In spite of their 2009 WS victory, my distaste for the Yankees has waned a bit since Steinbrenner morphed out of the picture, or maybe I'm just getting older and don't get as worked up about things like that anymore...but I still want to see A-Rod dressed up as a minotaur, as he apparently has a painting of himself like that above his bed (according to Kate Hudson).

Short List

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Mariners, little league games, ASU Sun Devils

  • Favorite Coaches

Lou Piniella, Lenny Wilkens, and my father

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

Game 7 of the 2001 WS...when the D-backs came back to beat Mariano Rivera and a string of 3 Yankee titles in the bottom of the 9th...I'm guessing I won't see anything like that again in my lifetime, let alone personally witness it.

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak (minus Dead Ball-era pitching records)

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays...he had better all-round skills and better speed...but one can't ignore Ruth and the fact that he pitched -- making him essentially the only "6 tool" player ever.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana...he had more swagger to his step.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Russell...if you look up "team player" in the dictionary, you'll see his face.

  • Pele or Maradona?

Pele, if for no other reason because he played for a team named after the universe of all things -- the "Cosmos" -- and I can't decide if that's more trippy or funny

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

Pac 10...the west is the best...who wants to hang in that humidity in the midwest or back east?
