I didn't intend any slight to the MWC with my handicapping article; I was simply using the term "Major Conference" in the same way (and to refer to the same group) as one might use the term "Power Six Conference", a traditional grouping that has nothing to do with which conferences are strongest in a given year.

Ditto to QUICKS. NCAA RPI has six MWC teams in top 50, ACC has 4, Big 12 has 5 PAC 12 has 4 and the mighty SEC has 3.

Sorry for the belated response to your February article on the new college football kickoff rules, but some things just occured to me.
If a team has fourth and 11 on their 45 yard line do they attempt to punt out of the end zone? The answer: NO! They try to down the ball within the 5 yard line. The same philosophy should evolve with kickoffs.
Why would a team try to kickoff out of the end zone? Only the best of kickoff returners average returns of more than 25 yards(check the NCAA stats). If kickers aim for within the 5 yard line, their odds of pinning the offense within the 25 yard line are high.
I would see, as in punting, kickers striving for hang time instead of distance.

A STORY IDEA: With the new year, how about a list of phrases we want sports pundits, athletes and coaches to stop using - words and phrases that should be outlawed. Among my favorites:
BODY OF WORK - used to justify big conference bias
ONE GAME AT A TIME - diversion used by coaches and players to avoid talking about the future game they are really worried about.
I WANT TO THANK GOD FOR THIS VICTORY - as though God has taken sides in the contest or he even has time to worry about such trivial things. Keep your religion to yourself.

Apparently like Brent Musburger you think Kellen Moore is not playing football next year. Although he is a Senior He has a year of eligibility next year and will play as a graduate student.
I can't imagine you knew this and omitted a 2010 Heisman finalist from your list?!?!!?
