David's Bio

Dave has been a sports fan for about 24 years now. His fondest memories were the Sundays he spent watching NY Giants and NY Jets football games with his dad after church. Originally from New York City, he went to school in the Midwest at the University of Missouri and Illinois State University. He currently lives in the greater Las Vegas area.

David Writes About

The Short List What David thinks about sport's most pressing questions

  • Favorite Athletes

Charles Barkley - yes, he's not active anymore, except for his mouth when he's talking on TNT (or eating), but he will always be my personal favorite

  • Favorite Sports Teams

Missouri Tigers, New York Yankees, New York Giants, and (I am ashamed to admit) the New York Knicks

  • All Time Sports Moment

The brief, glorious, shining week in 2007 when my Mizzou Tigers were ranked #1 in the country

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

1997 Missouri-Nebraska game at Faurot Field: I was in the stands on the 50 yard line when the Flea Kicker happened. My friends and I all thought that the game was over, and as people started to rush the field, I knew that something wasn't right because the Nebraska bench was celebrating right in front of us. So not a positive memory, but still memorable

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

UCLA's 88 game winning streak in basketball. I just doubt we will ever see dominance of that level ever again

  • Ruth or Mays?

Mays by a hair, only because the Babe wasn't able to compete against everyone (unfortunately)

  • Unitas or Montana?

Montana. Unitas is a great, but Montana was Joe Cool when it mattered most.

  • Jordan or Russell?

Russell. I am a believer in offense, and Jordan was beyond great. But Russell was a game changer on the defensive end. And yes, I still do harbor some bias against Jordan as a Knicks fan from the 80s and 90s. Sue me. :)

  • Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky. Orr was a good defenseman, but again, I believe in offense. And when the league retires your number during your final game, I think that says volumes, too.

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele. Hand of God notwithstanding

  • Federer or Sampras?

Sampras. Federer has been very dominant, but men's tennis is down. Sampras had much, much tougher competition

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Eldrick wins. Jack is influential, but Tiger has exhibited not only periods of absolute dominance, but has changed the game off the course as well

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Petty. Going with the King for this one.

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Racing, huh? I'm actually speechless here.

  • Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Big 12 Basketball (because I'm an alum), but for football, it's the SEC all the way. Sorry, Big Ten and Pac-10, but the SEC just cares more.

  1. Hey Dave-

As a Big Ten writer, I have a bit of a favor to ask you.

I just came out with my latest article on the Gophers game against #8 Cal this weekend.

Would love your input, I'm trying to become a featured columnist for the Gophers football team. Your input would be awesome! Thanks!

  2. Thank you for your note. I understand your theory, however due to recent votes by the conference commissioners, a + one model that was introduced in '07 by the SEC and ACC commissioners, was shot down by every commissioner except those two. That means that not only did the Pac-10 and Big Ten guys vote against it, so did the Big 12, Big East, the ND AD and all the non-BCS commissioners. There is too much willfull igorance about who and what is holding up a playoff and it is not just the Pac and Big Ten. It is much easier to blame those two due to their more vocal opposition. The ones that hold all the cards are the college presidents, whose interests the commissioners represent and only a few are on record as being in favor of a playoff model. They are the ones who signed off on the BCS and they would have the final say in any changes to it. There will not be a FBS playoff for a very long time if ever. I have a different theory about the vitriol toward tOSU and by association, the Big Ten. I am working on an article about it and will post it soon. In the meantime, I am anticipating the opening game against Navy. Make sure you watch it, both the Navy Drum and Bugle Corp and the Ohio State marching band are performing together. A couple of fighter jets wil do a fly over and John Glenn is dotting the "i". Criticize them all you want, but nobody puts on a better party than tOSU. Go Bucks!

  3. Hey, I just completed my second article on Duke Football, trying to become a Duke Football Featured Columnist. I preview the Top 5 Offensive Players to keep an eye on in 2009. Since I am trying to become a FC, please leave any feedback that you can, what I should do differently next time, things I can do to improve the article, etc. Thanks in advance. I appreciate the support!

  6. Hey David-

How's it going!? Hope everything's well. Favre going to the Vikings is becoming more and more of a possibility. As a Vikings fan, my allegiance towards him is quickly changing and I kind of like the idea. I'd appreciate it if you check out my article!

  7. I realized the BCS is better than a play-off, and decided it needed to be defended. I'd love your input.

I'd appreciate it if you had the chance.

  8. Thanks for the great comments on my BCs article (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/72239-long-live-the-bcs-much-to-fans-chagrin). I must tank you for helping me to see things from a different perspective. That is a rare talent.

  9. thanks for the add!
