Is USF1 in Trouble Yet?
11/09/2009
Just an auto mechanic from Ohio(you won't get me to be more specific than that! Bad past experiences have taught me to be careful about how much I reveal about myself) with a passion for racing.
My friends call me D-Boy, feel free to call me this as well if you'd like. There's an interesting story as to why I have a nickname ripped straight from an anime series, but I won't bother with telling it here. But suffice it to say, I was feared in high school, even though I wasn't a bully.
I once raced a 1999 Swift CART chassis in vintage formula racing, but will soon be switching to amateur-level sports prototypes, running a Chiron LMP3(after finding I liked its handling characteristics more than those of a Ligier JS49). My racing endeavors are mostly funded by my boss - very good man, well-known in our local community. I made my decision to switch to a cheaper sportscar for racing because some recent issues gave him some financial troubles(minor ones that have mostly been sorted), and running old open-wheel cars is quite expensive. Of course the fact that my doctor was concerned about me overstraining my neck helped make the choice as well.
I have a love for road courses, but I also have nothing against ovals. I love Champ Car, NASCAR, IndyCar, Formula One, MotoGP, Le Mans.... If its got wheels and a motor and goes really fast, I like it.
I've found I have a very unconventional view of the world of racing. I'm always thinking outside of the box on issues and rarely end up taking sides on a matter - I usually have a completely different view the vast majority of people. Even when I do side with one group or another, its rarely to the full extent.
My articles are a way to share my unconventional views.
I want to make you think about certain things in a way you may not have considered.
But most of all, I want my ideas to make people TALK! TALK and come up with even MORE new and greater ideas! Its talking about things and throwing out ideas no one had considered that results in the BEST ideas!
I don't expect my ideas to change the world. But if I can make people think, even just simple fans... I'm happy.
Now sit back, enjoy the articles, and open your mind to my abnormal thoughts.
I'll read up on hat some more but I think Indycar is loosening up so the Panoz rmor makes sense,

Hear the news? The FIA and FOTA are all hugs now apparently, and Max Mosely won't be coming back. F1's been saved!

While every series seems to have issues the IRC continues to get better.

My sources tell me that the "Ferrari" engine is really the Maserati engine that was in development a few years ago. I was financed privately as is this new Ferrari Engine. Remember that G/A engines are extremely restricted and are way down on potential horsepower. What they are probably developing is mileage.

It is not too late to make a difference!
You can help. Please give a read and "pay this forward" Some things are bigger than sports.

D-boy.
Excellent article. The DP's need help in the looks department.
Not sold in the "close racing" angle. I am not a fan of manipulated racing.

D-Boy,
Are you seriously comparing IRL Mirror development with F-1 Tech development?
The IRL is a spec series. They all run the same chassis and motor. development is severely restricted.
Mirror development for testing to be run next year is not that interesting.

D-Boy,
I saw where you wrote on L.J.'s BB
"In IRL the teams are allowed to develop certain areas of the chassis. Most visibily the shape of the rear mirrors and the wing endplates."
You are wrong. The IRL froze Mirror and End-Plate development early last season. About the only thing you can work on now is the windscreen along with shocks and springs, And even those are heavily restricted,
Grand-Am has looser rules.

Formula 1 has taken some huge steps backwards in the last 24 months...if not 60 months...I think that the IRL should approach FOCA (whatever) and offer to "blend" their concept into "our" concept and set up a true manufacturer's series that encompasses the entire world.
Are you weary of "Spec Series" racing?
Would you want to see Ferrari, BMW and Mercedes at Indy?
Far fetched? Yes. impossible? No.
