http://64forsuu.org/

Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of Burma’s democracy movement, will have spent a total of 5,000 days in detention on Sunday 5th July. Aung San Suu Kyi is currently on trial for breaking the terms of her house arrest, after an American man swam to her house and refused to leave. Her trial resumes on Friday 3rd July.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained on three separate occasions. The first was 20th July 1989 – 10th July 1995. The second 23rd September 2000 – 6th May 2002. The third started on 30th May 2003 – present. In March 2009 the UN declared Aung San Suu Kyi’s detention to be illegal under international law and Burmese law.

Other key dates coming up:

8th August 2009 – 21st anniversary of 1988 uprising.

24th October 2009 – Aung San Suu Kyi will reach 14 years in detention

  1. Saraswathi,

Thank you for reading my article and the POTD.

    Raymond

  2. thanks. there are so many writers here that know their team, player, driver, boxer, etc. that C vs C would've have eventually been done here anyway.

what makes me the happiest is that so many have run with it, i thought it would stick to the coll fb page and maybe the NFL but it's neat seeing the format in other sports. thanks again.

    Justin

  3. You certainly have some grateful fans on here. How's life?

  4. Check out my latest article on the expectations that come with Marian Gaborik's hefty new contract with the New York Rangers when you get a spare moment. Thanks.

  6. i'm not sure what i was even planning on writing once i opted to get this far, sara...but something in my heart and mind needed to cry out to my sister for a hug.

lo and behold...an email from you was waiting in my inbox. i cannot begin to express how deeply i needed to receive what you gave me. thank you, thank god, thank the universe...it's simple and kind gestures such as this that make the stars shine from my gutter. much love to you, my sister...much gratitude...laughter and peace...

  7. I have decided to write a B/R Chatter piece, this time on the trolling that has continued here on B/R. Why this act needs to be done away with once and for all, and the community needs to speak out about it. If you have the time, check it out. Thanks!

  11. Hi Sara, thanks for picking my 'backhand' article. Hope you are well.....
I was interested in your profile message. Been following Aung San Suu's story - the advantage of living day-to-day with the wonderful BBC.
What an inspirational woman, and well done you for highlighting her trials.
The media must continue to cast a spotlight on such injustice.

  12. Hello!
I've been trying to publish Part Two of my "no-so-Good-Old-Days" article, but I've run into massive problems, not only will my lead photo not up load, but even if I attempt to skip using a photo the B/R site "spell check" goes wacky on me and I get some sort of error message window???

Also any attempt to insert a you tube link will not work. [or 'embed' {is that the proper term?} will not work.
    WTH???

I have saved the article as a 'draft', but I can't get more than that.

    Thanks for any help!
