After graduating the B/R Sports Media Training Program for Summer 2013, I accepted a job as the Staff Writer for Mustang News, Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo's student-run media outlet. I switched into news because I wanted to broaden my skill set after being a sports columnist for Mustang News last year. Many of my columns were bigger issues with a connection to sports, like this gay athlete's experience coming out to his cross-country team.
While attending high school in Davis, CA, I wrote for the Davis Enterprise, moving up from an intern to a part-time sportswriter. I routinely interviewed professional athletes, developing confidence in my skills and a passion for sports journalism. I was also the editor-in-chief of my school's newspaper, The Vitruvian.

Whoa! I'm just now seeing you went to Davis High?! So did I! Class of 03!
I really appreciate that you chose The King over Dale. Too many people glorify Dale in their minds, but when it comes down to it, nobody will ever get 200 wins again... Or even close for that matter.
Thanks for becoming a fan, Benjy! I'm glad to see you're enjoying B/R so far and wish you the best of luck in the sports media internship. I was actually a part of the internship in it's inaugural class back in the summer of 2010. It was as challenging as it was rewarding. My best advice is to use your internship coordinators as soundboards for questions, story ideas and constructive criticism. If you have any questions going forward or suggestions about ways to improve B/R, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks again.
