Bob's Bio

I am a lifelong Chicagoan who roots for all of the Chicago sports teams, especially the Cubs. I could die a happy man if the Cubs could just once win the damn World Series.

I have a passion for writing, but I must warn you: I am not shy when it comes to expressing my opinions. And I don't bathe frequently. But the good thing is I'm always willing to hear another side of the story, so feel free to challenge me if you do not agree with something I've written. I'm usually right, except when I am wrong.

I am married with three kids, one of each. If you want to know more about me, first consult a therapist. But if you still insist, Sam Wenk was kind enough to do a brief profile on me for BR:

(Thanks, Sam, the check is in the mail)

I am the Chicago Cubs Community Leader, and we're trying to become THE place to go for your online Cubs fix. Tell your friends, wake the neighbors, phone the kids. We're always looking for fresh Cubbie talent, so drop me a line on my Bulletin Board below, or via my personal e-mail at rememberthecoop@yahoo.com - I'd be happy to help you in any way possible.

Favorite Sports Teams

Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cowboys, Florida Gators, Fightin' Illini.

All Time Sports Moment

The Chicago Bears Super Bowl season of 1985. Every where you went in Chicago, the Super Bowl Shuffle was playing. Never got tired of it.

Most Memorable Game Attended

Believe it or not, it was a Chicago Cougars hockey game when Bobby Hull came back to Chicago and scored a hat trick. I got his autograph.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Most victories & complete games, MLB pitching. These records can never be broken because of 5 man rotations and the evolution of the bullpen. Also, number of hot dogs consumed by Babe Ruth in one season.

Ruth or Mays?

Ruth - he was a great pitcher in addition to a great hitter.

Unitas or Montana?

Montana. I don't remember much of Unitas. Then again, I don't remember much of last night.

Jordan or Russell?

MJ. I don't recall Jane Russell ever playing any sports.

Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky. Orr redefined the position; Gretzky redefined the sport.

Pele or Maradona?

Pele. Besides, that Maradona chick is an overrated singer in my opinion.

Federer or Sampras?

Who cares? Neither one looks good in a dress.

Tiger or Nicklaus?

I know Tiger will end up with all the records, but give me Jack & Arnie any day.

Petty or Earnhardt?

Tom Petty.

Schumacher or Senna?

Excuse me, did you say something?

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Big 10

  1. Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the support. BR is great. I'm in college and am thinking about changing my degree to journalism. This site really helps my gain experience. I appreciate any help you have to offer me as a young writer.

  3. Thanks for the welcome. I hope to be a good asset to the community at B/L

  4. Thanks for the kind words, Bob, I really appreciate them. Thanks also for your comments on self-actualization. I'd love to discuss it more with you, but I have another part of that evil series planned. I'll be sure to let you know when it's up!

    -AK

  5. Thanks for your concern, Bob.

I've never received instructions not to, so I have edited about seven or eight of them (whenever they come across the queue, really). I acknowledge his standing as a writer, and any edits I make are either strictly for B/R style or grammar. Neither changes his work, tone, voice, or message. So thanks again for asking, if that changes for some reason, I'll let you know.

    Have a great day!

P.S. All writers, syndicated or not, have egos; it's a job requirement. They couldn't put their thoughts and opinions out there so voraciously if they didn't believe in them 100%. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

  6. Bob -

I don't know what to say, and I don't know if there IS anything I can say to you to make you feel better. Great article though. I was going to write one, but decided to refrain out of respect to Cubs fans. I was wondering if you could reach out to this new writer Vik Chokshi: http://bleacherreport.com/users/58151-vik-chokshi

Thanks Bob..and keep your head up.

  7. Hey Bob could you check out my article. I would appreciate it...well I guess there is all was next year...sadly

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/65324-the-ten-reasons-why-the-cubs-failed-this-october

  8. I am SO sorry, dude! I can't believe it--I thought this was y'all's year--the best team playing the worst...I'm just in shock.

  9. Wow, I haven't heard about that from Ryan...must be brand new.

I know the site has been having coding problems all day, so they may have been in the process of implementing that and working out the kinks when you posted. Who knows...

  10. Bob-

I was wondering if you could reach out/help engage a new Cubs writer I just recruited named Jeffrey Jackson. Thanks for everything!

  11. If it was done through HTML, it's possible it did not show up in the editing module. If that's the case and you saw it on the B/R story working properly before, let me know so I can do this (or you can do it yourself):

-Revert to the previous revision and open it,

-Click the HTML button on the toolbar,

    -Copy the necessary coding,

-Revert back to my revision and open it,

    -Click the HTML button,

-Paste in the coding where necessary.

Again, really sorry if that's the case. I would revert and check right now, but I figure if you do polls often this could happen again, so it might be good for you to know how to do it if you are comfortable with HTML. If not, I'll be happy to fix it since I apparently unwittingly nixed it by deleting what looked like an unneeded extra hard return.

But polls are good and swell, and keep doing them and posting, if I may say so myself, some of the best content we have on here. Again, let me know if you need the poll fixed.

  12. I don't see one in the revision history...but what do you mean by a poll? A coded-up one or an informal question to be answered in the comments?

I don't think I accidentally deleted anything, but let me know (and, of course, sorry) if I did.

  13. My first and probably last MLB article
