Bob's Bio

I am a lifelong Chicagoan who roots for all of the Chicago sports teams, not surprisingly, but the Cubs in particular. I like most sports, no NASCAR, but I gravitate toward all things baseball, and I could die a happy man if the Cubs could just once win the damn World Series.

I am a Senior Writer for BR who has a passion for writing, but I must warn you: I am not shy when it comes to expressing my opinions. And I don't bathe frequently. But the good thing is I'm always willing to hear another side of the story, so feel free to challenge me if you do not agree with something I've written. I'm usually right, except when I am wrong.

I am a family man with three kids, one of each. If you want to know more about me, first consult a therapist, get a life, and if you still want more, Sam Wenk was kind enough to do a brief profile on me for BR:

(Thanks, Sam, the check is in the mail)

I am the Chicago Cubs Community Leader, which is a fancy way of saying I write a lot of Cubs articles and clean up the site of unwanted non-Cubs content. We're always looking for fresh Cubbie talent, so drop me a line on my Bulletin Board below, or via my personal e-mail at rememberthecoop@yahoo.com - I'd be happy to help you in any way possible. Remember: I would do anything for sports...but I won't do that.

Favorite Sports Teams

Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cowboys, Lakers, D'Backs, Florida Gators, Fightin' Illini.

All Time Sports Moment

The Chicago Bears Super Bowl season of 1985. Every where you went in Chicago, the Super Bowl Shuffle was playing. Never got tired of it.

Most Memorable Game Attended

Believe it or not, it was a Chicago Cougars hockey game when Bobby Hull came back to Chicago and scored a hat trick. I got his autograph.

Most Unbreakable Sports Record

Most victories & complete games, MLB pitching. Other records are tough, like DiMaggio's hit streak, but these two can never be broken because of 5 man rotations and the evolution of the bullpen.

Ruth or Mays?

Ruth - he was a great pitcher in addition to a great hitter.

Unitas or Montana?

Montana. I don't remember much of Unitas. Then again, I don't remember much of last night.

Jordan or Russell?

MJ. I don't recall Jane Russell ever playing any sports.

Gretzky or Orr?

Gretzky. Orr redefined the position; Gretzky redefined the sport.

Pele or Maradona?

Pele. Besides, that Maradona chick is an overrated singer in my opinion.

Federer or Sampras?

Who cares? Neither one looks good in a dress.

Tiger or Nicklaus?

I know Tiger will end up with all the records, but give me Jack & Arnie any day.

Petty or Earnhardt?

Tom Petty.

Schumacher or Senna?

Excuse me, did you say something?

Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC, or Big East?

Big 10

  1. Hey Bob—check out my new baseball column:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/40034-move-over-barry-bonds-thats-why-i-play-in-center-field-introduction

I know you'll have some interesting takes on this no doubt...

  2. Thanks for the comments and critiques, Bob. I'm an avid Cubbie fan, and would be happy to help in the surveys and roundtables and anything else our fearless community leader desires. you can reach me at
    abishop@saintmarys.edu

  3. Hey Bob, wrote a article on Craig Steltz and let me know what you think. Feel free to edit it also.

  4. You rock Bob, thanks, it's an honor to be on your profile! My goal for the BR is to help the Cubs and Bears community grow to new heights, and with the contributions you make to each Cubs article, whether it be writing, reviewing, or commenting, the community is soaring right now.

"Come to think of it," keep up the amazing work!

  5. Thanks for the welcome! Probably much to your dismay I am a Cardinals fan. But being as how I grew up before "MLB Extra Innings" I watched a lot of Cubs and Braves games as a little kid. So I still know a fair share about all those teams. I really am more a fan of the sport then anything else.

  6. I was just wondering if you would like to have writer privileges on the blog so you don't have to worry about me not being able to post your stuff. Let me know if that is fine for you.

  7. the reason i'm thinking it could be a low to medium risk is because if they lose him this year, they're not necessarily doomed. yes, from the standpoint of just keeping him healthy its high risk, but in the context of the team becoming better and stronger there is a low risk harden hurts them.

  8. You have officially been added to the writers section and I posted your Cubs announcers article over to my blog. I've recently linked your Robby Gordon Save the Name article in my Off-Day Readings article so I didn't see a point to adding that one as well. Thank you for being involved in this, and I plan to post more of your articles over to my blog.

  9. Hey Bob, as you know, I have been writing a Chicago Cubs blog and I was just wondering if I could post your Cubs articles on my blog to try to get a more diverse set of articles on the site. Let me know if that would be ok with you.

  10. Sounds good. It does help and I'll make sure to try and limit the tags to keep it focused on the main story about the article. Thanks for the heads-up.

  11. Hey Bob,

What exactly did you edit about my article? I'm just curious because I didn't see anything changed yet it says you edited it.

  12. Ya if you want to get a hold of me during the summer by e-mail please send it to Mp05cc@aol.com. Sorry about the inconvenience. If you could resend that to me that would be great. Thanks.

  13. One more thought on Gallagher. Take a look at these numbers. It's number of starts made, followed by number of dominant performances, meaning at least 5 IP and 0 or 1 ER allowed.
Zambrano 17 starts, 7 dominant Lilly 18,3 Dempster 18,7 Marquis 16,3 Gallagher 10,3 and Hill even had one in 5 starts.
The point being, when Gallagher was good, he was VERY good, and he had as many such performances as Marquis and Lilly did, and in fewer starts.

  14. Well Tony Romo is my favorite player out of all the sports. I have watched him since his first game on and every time I'm excited. I probably will change it to Phil Hughes as soon as he gets back into action though but I will be rocking the Romo picture until then. I'm glad I gave you some hope, you always got to believe. The Cubs are a good team, and also my favorite NL team. I'd love to see a Yankees Cubs world series. I'm watching the end of the cubs game right now. It looks like they got it in the bag with a 9-0 lead but we will see if Lilly can get the complete game shutout. The cubs needed a huge game like this and Lilly looked sharp.

  15. Sup Bob! Take a look at my new article. Tell me what u think.

    Take care man!
