Michael attends college in NC as well, where he recently changed his major from Computer Information Systems to English/Journalism because his love for writing especially about sports. Once he graduates he plans to attend Grad school in DC or Dallas and continue to study Journalism.

Despite being a native of the Carolinas, he hates the North Carolina Tarheels with a passion. However, he is a huge Duke fan and is starting to show a little love towards the Charlotte Bobcats.

Michael’s favorite athletes of all-time would have to be Jerry Rice, Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Clyde Drexler.

Some of his favorite current athletes are Carmelo Anthony, Ray Allen, Diana Taurasi, Vladimir Guerrero, Manny Ramirez, Ichiro, Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow Jr., Carson Palmer, Candace Parker, Steve Nash, Joe Johnson, A-Rod, Gilbert Arenas, and Steve Smith.

Whittenberg loves and follows all sports—but shows more adulation towards NBA Basketball and he considers himself a historian of the game.

He shows much respect and admiration for sports writers Stephen A.Smith, J.A. Adande, Jamelle Hill, Scoop Jackson, Chris Broussard, Jeffri Chadiha, John Clayton, Chris Sheridan, Marc Stein, Woody Paige, Jay Mariotti and Bill Plaschke.

Mike started writing at the age of 10… he used to write short story mysteries for fun and his brother illustrated the “books”. As a child, he admired the writing style of R.L. Stine because he was a huge fan of Goosebumps. He is still a mystery/horror fan and loves to read Edgar Allen Poe, Stephen King, and Dean Koontz. He also enjoys biographies, autobiographies and inspirational books…particularly Hill Harper and TD Jakes.

Away from sports writing and reading, his other hobbies include gun range shooting, playing basketball, and clothes shopping. Mike considers himself a great dresser and is addicted to Lacoste polos.

  1. Thanks for the comment. Congrats on having your article chosen by Fox, that's great.

  2. Mike -

Just wanted to let you know that your "3 QBs to Watch" article was chosen for publication on FoxSports.com as part of a new partnership we have with them.

  3. Hey Michael, could you check out my "Make Your Case" article. I would love some feedback. Thanks.

  4. Hey man, loved the quarterbacks article—very informative, and you're right they will be fun to watch.

I do have one question thought—how'd you get the enlarged text about halfway down your article? It looks sharp man, very sharp.

    BT

  5. No problem.

  6. Hey Michael,

Check out my in depth analysis on the possible trading of Allen Iverson.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/21899-When-Does-The-Allen-Iverson-Sweepstakes-Begin-

  7. Sup bro! Check out the article I wrote, tell me what's up. Peace.

  8. Thanks for the add, I must say due to recent events I've had to remove Roger Clemmons from my favorite players of all-time list, you may want to think about doing the same with Karl Malone haha. I appreciate any help you can give and look forward to reading some of your critiques on the Association.

  9. How do you put your quotes on the side of the article?

And I don't understand how my article, which I wrote comparing CP3 and Deron, something worthy of comparison won't get nearly the amount of reads then a LBJ-Carmelo comparison.

  10. Thanks for the feedback my dude

  11. Michael--

That article about Kobe winning the MVP is right on point. Great job.

    Ben

  12. Hey Michael, I just finished an article called "Who is the NBA's best PG Tandem" I think it is pretty good, but would really like some tips to make it better, if you have time, I would really appreciate your help.

    TJ

  13. Hey Micheal,

    The Carmelo-Lebron article is done.

    Check it out

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/20883-Who-s-Better-Carmelo-or-Lebron

Vote for it as Pick Of The Day. You won't be sorry, don't forget vote.

  14. You wouldn't by chance be releasing the Celtics peace sometime this week would you?

I was planning to post who's truly better Carmelo or Lebron. You know from stats, on the court accomplishments, and endorsements.

Just wanted to know so the articles aren't bumping heads or battling for the spotlight.

    I'll give you the priority.

    Sean
