I think the big two will always be strong, but that's it. No other club has the financial power or draw to get to an elite level and stay there.

The EPL was more competitive before because of how they share wealth so much better. That simply isn't happening in Spain and by the time a truly fair TV deal comes into place, it may be too late for most teams. I hope for the best, but the reality is grim now and in the immediate future.

The EPL does prove that money doesn't bring success, but at least it brings stability. In Spain the 3-6 teams are all in financial turmoil and have to sell their big stars almost every season. England doesn't have it quite that bad. Even clubs that sell (like Arsenal) are still in great financial shape and don't HAVE to sell just to make payments like La Liga's second tier clubs.

I think the EPL is HIGHLY overrated and a product of great global marketing as much as truly great league-wide football, but La Liga has given special treatment for Barcelona and Madrid for so long that it may have already killed the chance of having a third REAL contender for the next decade. Time will tell, of course.

With respect i think La Liga will either stay strong from it's big two and unsustainable clubs having 1 year of joy, (like now). Or it will be more competitive like the EPL was a few years ago if other clubs go the step further beyond 2nd. Malaga could've made a semi of the UCL so they r not that far off the mark and considering it's been the Europa where all the other teams have excelled this is a good sign.

Look at the EPL to see that money doesn't bring success

    R u sure?

Anyway, i can't believe u think that, Spain is continuing to produce great players, perhaps not as good but i think La Liga has only just got started. Still the best national team. But the PL will always be hard to put away with all the money it has.

    Hey,

you talk negatively about the chances of a non la liga side having an uprise. Football like predicting the powers of the future world will always change, some teams will have their eras, and it will revert back to the usual powers. That is what makes the game outside off the pitch so interesting, Dortmund for instance got a bit lucky and have found themselves engraved as finalists on the European trophy, keep faith.

The tension and inability to joke and have fun on this website is too intense for that of me though, people need to try not to be robotic in the excess of argumentative comments on this website

Thats my point,we overpaid too. Think about it, Ozil costs 15 million,Khedira, 13 mill,Reus 17 mill, Neuer 18 mill and Lewandowski is worth 25 mill and we paid 35 mill plus for Gomez in 2009!! Way too expensive for a one dimensional player with poor record in big games. If Lewandowski joins he will leave for sure. Though I am not sure if we need Lewandowski ,but if we are going to have a rebel striker might as well offload him.

The thing is he is not worth the money just for poaching, there are equally good strikers/poachers who never get the same amount of recognition. Take Stefan Kiessling for example,he is the German version of Mandzukic with better finishing technique yet Low will never consider him over Gomez for NT. Diego was superb even the other day vs Bayern , the best goal of the day was scored by him and he totally man handled Dortmund in their home ground. He needs to play at Athletico,he is close to his 2010 best. Wolfsburg is a waste of time and space. Had the 51-49 rule not been there they would probably be Chelsea+City+PSG combined :P

Dude serial goal misser Mario Goalmiss is pretty far from Falcao barring the poaching instinct. Falcao takes free kicks, overheads everything and influences a game far more than Gomez,he is a player who can make or break a game. Gomez' bottling is unbelievable, you would imagine any other guy scoring that many goals would have been held in highest record and possibly won several accolades. There is a reason why he doesn't. Falcao's chips, free kicks, dribbling and passing is just a beauty to watch. Gomez is an eyesore. He ll prolly get you goals but won''t have Falcao's influence. Best is to keep him and get Diego back, that would be destructive. Diego is playing well again.

Yup,there was a joke floating around last yr that Chelsea offered Torres plus 50 mill for Falcao and Athletico rejected the offer since they wanted only the 50 mill. I feel bad for the guy though , after 2008 I used to think he will be one of the greatest strikers ever! And look what happened. He can still restore his career though but people have lost faith. Please take Gomez from us and give us Falcao :P His grandparents are still in Madrid and Real fans :P

Well the thing is Chelsea's success has come at a price, after yrs of training together their veterans finally delivered a CL which also resulted in complete demise of the team, thus raising major questions if they won the title in true sense or their opponents deserved to lose for missing a gazillion chances. Bayern's blue print is more permanent which enables us to compete at a top level unless we have a coaching crisis . Hopefully Guardiola's appointment will be very smooth. I always loved his dominating style.
Re Athleti transfers,do you reckon if Torres will be back? Chelsea might include that in a deal.

German teams have the fortune of a better FA however, there is that much a system can do. Clubs are still low in ambition and mismanaged. Take a team like Schalke for example, why would someone like Holtby leave Schalke which is in CL last 16 to go play in Europa league with Tottenham that too for 1.5 mill Euros! Even though Bayern is 82% publicly owned, our financial might is beyond the ability of German clubs barring Leverkusen and Wolfsburg who can pay high wages as well, but because of the 51-49 rule can't pay high transfer fees. I have always analyzed if a league's quality can be judged just because 1 or 2 teams dominate but it is pretty clear from the domination of Spanish teams and now German, teams which are missing out to Barca or Real are still very good.
It will be good to welcome back Athletico in CL hopefully they can convince Turan,Lopez and Falcao to stay and bring back Diego. How do you rate Diego Simeone though? I feel Athletico would benefit more from a coach like Pellegrini even though Simeone signed an extension.
