I think your idea for MMA scoring is interesting. But the state athletic commissions that make the rules are pretty firmly committed to the standard 10-9 must system.
I have a suggestion for MMA judging/scoring. How about 5-point rounds where the judges effectively score each minute of a round? In this scenario, a fighter could win a round 5-0, 4-1, or 3-2. I always use the Machida/Rampage fight as an example for this scoring system. If Rampage 'won' the first two rounds, it would be 3-2 at best, thus leading 6-4 going into the final round. In that round, Machida easily outgunned Rampage and conceivable won the round 5-0 at best or 4-1 at worst. In this scoring system, he would have won the fight 9-6 or 8-7, a fight that most thought he won. This obviously would not combat bad judging but it might make up for some of their errors.
