June 1968- graduated from Bradley University with a B.A. in Secondary (grades 6-12/H.S.) Education (majors Eng. & P.E.)

1969-1972- had two sons

1976- began teaching and also started taking classes in Registered Nursing

1980-graduated & began working as an RN in Mother/Baby Unit

1980-1989 worked in OB at 2 hospitals & cont'd substitute teaching

1989-1996-worked in Adolescent Psych.

1996- Dx'd with M.S. began working in Adult Psych

9-13-2001- resigned as 11-7 Charge RN on PSYCHIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Hey Dorothy—looks like Andrew went ahead and unedited it.

For future reference: please keep in mind that as a Bleacher Report author, you ALWAYS reserve the right to revert back to a previous version of your piece should you not like the manner in which it was revised.

Hey Dorothy,

I hope you've been enjoying the new and improved Bleacher Report—we're really happy with the feedback we've received so far.

That would be great! If you are ever on My Space you could check Cody's space his email is c4willis@hotmail.com and I am justdee1@insightbb.com and am on my space too. I just talked to Cody and he missed school today. Stomach flu has been playing havoc with the wrestlers at Clinton for a couple of weeks. He won 4th place at the Princeton tournaments this weekend wrestling seniors who are top ranked in Illinois, so I am really proud of him.

i have to look into going more. i haven't talked to my mom that much yet. But maybe! i haven't gone to any yet, but you meet fighters when you go to Ju Jitsu tournaments. The friend that I train with is a blue belt and has gone to a couple and he has actually met Anderson Silva.

I bought tickets for my grandson his mom, dad and my husband to go to Ohio again. I have Multiple Sclerosis and can't travel, so I won't be there, but maybe there is some way you could meet Cody and my family there. I really want him to go to a weigh-in and try to meet some of the fighters. In Cincinatti they ate where Anderson Silva did and their waiter had waited on him and told them about it. As they were leaving the restaurant they ran into Joe Rogan. They called me on a cell phone and I watched on PPV but felt just like I was there with them. You and Cody would probably have a lot to talk about because he wants to fight MMA too. Let me know if meeting them would be possible.

Hey! this is obviously chris. thanks for the post! ummm, the reason that i don't wrestle is because When you wrestle, the object is to stay off your back, but in Ju Jitsu, which i take, thats exactly where you want to be. I haven't been to any UFC events yet, but i plan on trying to go to the Henderson v.s Silva fight in Columbus ohio....

I actually really enjoy your poetry...it's the only poetry about MMA fighters I've ever read, and you execute the unique concept you've chosen quite well.

I think you have a lot of potentisl as a writer, I haven't seen you fight so I don't know about your prospects there. When my son was practicing karate he had a makawari board to toughen his striking surfaces (knuckles, etc.) For writing I feel you need to realize there are lots of other opinions out there, you need to toughen your skin, don't overact to every single word of a reply to your article. If you allow people to have differing opinions you can broaden your own experience and learn where they are coming from and use it in your writing, ie. "Some people may think. . . (disagree, prefer--feel free to pick your own word), and by including this you show you are aware of other stances being taken on the subject. Don't always do it with sarcasm, because then you are devaluing your audience's intelligence and their right to their own interpretation of the subject. You are writing to inform your readers of something, provoke thoughtful exploration of the subject, and hopefully put your own slant on it. Still not everyone will agree. Having many comments on your article is a compliment--you are reaching a wider audience and not just playing it safe by having everyone in agreement. If you can find the time read Mike Royko (Chicago Tribune) and Rick Baker(Peoria Journal Star), now both deceased but excellent editorialists, perhaps you willsee what I mean.

Wake up Jen--I have a debilitating disease which may not kill me but does keep me housebound . I wish to Hell I had the luxury of having a functioning body--I am assuming that since you keep making an issue of mentioning that "hey world I AM AN MMA FIGHTER!!!" that YOU have a functioning body.
Am I wrong about that too?

I am not going to lie but you stating that I have the luxury to fight is really not cool. You have no idea about my situation, financial or otherwise. I work one full time job, another job, and I go to school full time. I support myself. Nothing in my life is a luxury nor do I take anything for granted. Normally I wouldn't even respond but I get sick of people assuming that fight chicks are privileged. I work just as hard as the next guy. Everything I have and do is thanks to myself.

Jen, Sincerely, thanks to your articles I have been typing replies and I think it is helping my spasticity in my hands (MS, remember). Even my cognitive abilities are coming back. You have been very therapeutic for me. I may never leave the house, teach or be able to be a nurse again, but I do have another reason to live now. Thanks again. Dee

Jen, I am so happy that you followed through and read the article I cited. Not only that, you also cared enough to correct me on the editor's name and then actually wrote an article on Toughman!!! Wow! I hope you don't think that I am trying to manipulate you, but damn you are doing a great job. Nice research too. I enjoyed both your article, with which I am in complete agreement, and checking out the sites you referenced. Great job!!!

Jen, one of us is in good company, I'm not sure which-- you will spin it so it is you & I don't really care, but the Sport's Editor of Sequoyah County Times wrote on Sat. Nov 10, 2007 "Caves going for Oklahoma MMA belt" and suggests that although the MMA should not be put in the same category as the Toughman contests there is a similarity. You read it for yourself ( a good journalist would definitely read the article just for the hell of it and consider it research). It's good to know that there are other oldtimers out there besides me, like Mike Evans.

Jen, I am so dumb that I left my note to you on the same page as the one you are referring to above. I am not very good using my laptop, and not at all knowledgable about blogging. I was in Journalism in Junior Achievement and used to be beaten up as a young child by the former editor of the Peoria Journal Star, and that as close as I've come to being, other than having a poem published in H.S. and a short story published while in college. Maybe I will have to research the implications of closed head injuries instead of pimping ideas to you as if we were friends. As if. . .

I am sorry but I strongly disagree with you that toughman was a precursor to MMA. Toughman is an idiotic competition that does nothing but deprive MMA of its athletic value.
