Hey Josh,
I wrote a follow-up to that article comparing Kobe to Scottie Pippen, and I thought you might be interested... this time I'm comparing him to Clyde Drexler. I'd love your thoughts... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/189936-kobe-isnt-mj-but-hes-at-least-clyde-drexler

Have you heard anything about these Pedro Martinez to Pittsburgh rumors?

Josh,
Thanks for the response man and the kind words. I'm a huge fan of the Negro Leagues and the same way one of your mom's friends put a bug in your ear so to speak and made you want to research what the guy was talking about my dad did the same thing to me.
He noticed that I had an interest so we discussed it and provided me some information this went on about three times prior to him sending me to the books to research the matter. I have to admit, he told me when I was younger that I wouldn't like it but by doing things this way I would really learn the information I was requesting and retain it, like most kids in my mind and not verbally I said 'yeah sure' but he was right.
My dad attended Howard University and studied under Carter G. Woodson among others and this is when my love of history started. On another note I've been to what I call the 'burgh before. I haven't made it to West Field in Homestead, the former home of the Grays. Just stepping on the field would literally give me chills with all the history that was made there. The funny thing is, I'm sporting a Grays hat as I type this response. Several people will see it and go "who are the Grays and where the heck is Homestead"?
There is so much black history in Pittsburgh, hey and even your station WTAE spoke of Pittsburgh being the Home To Many Black History Breakthroughs during Black History month. In the 50's, New Kensington's Willie Thrower being the first black QB in the NFL and the University of Pittsburgh's Willie Greer being the first black man to play in the Sugar bowl, Andrew Stockey's report was outstanding.
There is a book on my list of books to read that might be of interest "The WPA History of the Negro in Pittsburgh" written by Laurence A. Glasco. I understand that he helped with an exhibit in Pittsburgh called "Free at Last? Slavery in Pittsburgh in the 18th and 19th Centuries."
Rich history that I enjoy exploring and a very rich sports history as well. I can't say I've been the biggest Steeler fan over the years but I've never hated them and have always respected them. I also loved what the Pirates did years ago and loved Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargel to name a few.
In closing I want to wish you and yours a safe, memorable and Happy Holiday Season!

Josh, thanks for the encouragement. It is awesome that you got to play in Three Rivers Stadium. I grew up idolizing Andy Van Slyke, and back then I could barely pronounce his name correctly. I remember going to Three Rivers and seeing Al Martin and Jeff King hit back to back homers. We moved down south before too long so I have only been able to make it to PNC a hand full of times but it is a wonderful place to catch a baseball game. I look forward to the day when the Pirates are good again, hopefully with Huntington's leadership that day will be coming soon. Take it easy man, and I am sure I will see you around.

Josh,
Thanks for the response man and the kind words. I played organized football for years and it kept me out of trouble growing up in south central Los Angeles, CA. I admit I'm a fan of the Raiders but I have to mention that I've been a pissed off fan for quite sometime for obvious reasons.
I've also showed the Steelers some love with a story titled "Steelers Defense; Putting on a clinic". I also think that Penn State will represent the Big 10 well against my USC Trojans on New Year's Day but I want to see a good competitive game.
Who am I trying to kid, when it comes to college football I enjoy watching but desire to see a playoff system instituted.
I've been a football fan longer than I've been a Raider fan and I watch everyone at all levels, High School, College and the Pro's.
My playing days stopped with a couple letters from two lower Division schools. Due to circumstances beyond my control and the loss of several friends to stupidity, gang violence, crime and other setbacks I decided to join the military. Like you I never stopped watching, learning and studying the intricacies of the game.
Several years ago I vowed to not allow Al Davis to F up my football season that I wait all year for which is why I watch every team and can discuss every team. I was fortunate enough to attend the Raiders vs. Redskins super bowl prior to transferring to overseas to Germany.
Like you I've a love of history and will soon write more articles on forgotten hero's of sports like the Negro League players, players who are deserving of the hall of fame and have not been inducted. I want to use this forum to put out articles with something to say that are worth a read and not spitting hate at individuals I don't really know.
In closing I would like you to check out my article titled "Why are Defensive Players Forgotten when it comes to NFL MVP" specifically to one of the comments toward the bottom of all the comments. One guy who got so carried away with the subject and giving the Steelers OLB James Harrison so much love he stated and I quote that "James Harrison is a bigger and better Lawrence Taylor."

Josh,
I've been with Bleacher for a while now and have written several articles. I wanted to touch base with you to let you know that I've read your articles and thought that they were top notch.
I just read one of the most ridiculous articles on the site stating that Kobe Bryant was overrated and as I checked a few of the comments and was prepared to leave my own I noticed Gaz V's comments and the funny thing is the exchange of comments or debate you stated everything that I was going to state on my comments.
I felt your opinions were dead on and the majority of these arguments are boring and get out of control to say the least. Several also fall into the I hate Kobe variety or just simply aren't fair. Congrats on the 2008 Telly Award, I will continue to check out your articles and I want to urge you to accomplish the task of finishing your book and I will check that out as well.
