Dan's Bio

As a lifelong Chicago sports fan, I've had my share of heartbreak following my favorite teams. Both the Cubs and Bears have oscillated from putridity to excellence and back again in my 20 some years as a devoted fan. Only Jordan's Bulls have shown me the ultimate joy the sports fan can experience, but even that was followed by some of the worst seasons any sports franchise has ever suffered through. Today, with the Cubs surging, the Bulls holding the number one pick in the 2008 draft, and plenty of controversy surrounding heading into Bears training camp, its an exciting time to live in the City of Chi.

  1. Hey Dan,
I think we could do a collaborative article, one article that uses two writers and gives the reader both points of view. We could kick it off with our Giambi, vs Bonds vs Hamilton if youre interested. The Title would be generic, like Hamilton vs Bonds vs Giambi: The Cheating Differences...
I am sure we could just link in both of our profile pages as a by-line, and I dont mind giving you the official credit, but if possible to place two writers on the same line it would only serve to make it more official. I have no problem doing the grunt work in talking to the founders, and editor to find out.
If youre down with this style, email me at PRead8@comcast.net to talk further about another idea for this site, or any other too. I did the same type thing for my college newspaper, but about politics. the result was an big increase in circulation and distribution. Let me know.

  2. No he doesn't. Sampson left that program in a whole mess of hurt. What he did was bad enough. But we're talking players not going to class, academic issues in addition. Not the way IU does business.

I'm not a Bobby Knight or Mike Davis apologist, but let's face it: this garbage never went on when they were there.

  3. I'm a big-time North Carolina fan but also root hard for the Hoosiers. The Sampson hire was a "we've made our bed" type of hirings. I thought he would win but at what cost? Really excited about Tom Crean.

  4. Thanks for the add. You must be stoked about the Cubbies right now!

  5. Dan,
Welcome to the wonderful world of the MMA Bleacher Section. The Kimbo Slice topic is a very heated discussion. Don't take the heat to personally. People either love or hate the guy, there is no middle ground. I would consider myself a "hardcore" MMA fan, and it's true that some of us can be elitests. But most of us have good intentions even if we don't know how to act like it. Think of it as trying to protect something you love. We just want people to get the right picture of MMA. Your a big baseball guy, in comparison think of someone saying that the Twins were the best team in baseball, but they only played college teams. They would look impressive winning but the level of competition isn't there. It's the same thing with Kimbo, he looks scary and dominating but he hasn't beat anyone with a decent talent level. The guy gets a bunch of press and is making tons of money, while guys who have given their whole lives to the sport are making a percentage of what he is. It's unfair, but it is what it is. The "hardcore" community doesn't want Kimbo to represent the typically MMA fighter, we want guys like Anderson Silva, Wand Silva, Chuck Liddell, Pat Miletich and Greg Jackson to get some of that credit. Also alot of the traffic that is around the community right now are there because of the hype surrounding Saturdays fight and aren't consistant contributors. If you want to keep writing about MMA please don't let a few bad apples ruin the pie.

  6. Glad I could help!

  7. Great article. I think you should write another fantasy article ranking the top 10 players at each position. Id be interested to hear your fantasy baseball thoughts on the current season thus far. Keep the fantasy articles coming!

  8. Dan, first off, that really was a great article. Informative and entertaining. Well done.

Secondly, yes, we really try to emphasize short, concise paragraphs. Research has shown that the longer the paragraphs, the less interested readers get and the less likely they are to read the piece at all. Large blocks of text can appear daunting, and readers, especially on the internet, can be easily distracted from reading larger paragraphs.

I understand it's a change from the way a lot of writers are used to writing, but it really does help. And if you have any questions or need anything from me at all, don't hesitate to let me know.
