Martin's Bio
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Martin is an avid sports fan who follows the NHL, EPL, F1, NFL and CFL quite religiously. A diehard fan of the Edmonton Oilers, Manchester United and F1 Racing, he has written a sports blog for the past couple of years at http://sportsguru.eclecticblogs.ca. As an avid competitive swimmer and soccer and football player growing up, knee injuries ended his playing days and his interests have changed to being a fan of sports and writing about them. Now living in Yellowknife in Canada's north he is happy that satellite TV allows him to follow his favorite teams and sports.

Hey Martin,
I just wanted to let you know that Bleacher Report has launched out of beta with an updated look and feel and some great new features. Check out the "Game On" link in the header to find out more.
Next week we'll be launching the site to the world with some public announcements—and it'd be great to get a contribution from you between now and Tuesday to make Bleacher Report's launch a success.
Let me know if you need any help with ideas or have questions. Have a great weekend Martin!

Hey Martin, thanks for asking. I thought we had a word count limit posted somewhere on the site but I can't seem to find it.
The article that I referring to clocked in at nearly 2,000 words which for this site, is a monster. I was able to get to it b/c I had a slow day article-wise and was able to spend the day picking through it. However, if we had been really slammed with new material, a 2,000-word recap is likely to be pushed aside, or quickly edited and then dropped.
Most in-depth recaps clock in between 700 and 1,000 words. This is a good area to shoot for. Obviously, you go to a lot of work in compiling these recaps, and as a former hockey nut (player and fan) who no longer follows a the sport closely, I get a kick out reading a play-by-play for an entire game. But by sticking to 1,000 words or less, and really focusing on including only those parts of the game that illustrate the key elements of the contest, you will not only do your editors a favor, you will also help tell the story clearly to the casual reader, and thus increase both your hits and fan base.
Thanks for taking the time both to contribute to the site and follow up with me. We appreciate your hard work and look forward to reading and publishing more of your articles in the future. If you have any other questions for me, don't hesitate to drop me a line.--jm

San Francisco is a great place. I'm glad you enjoy it.
We're going through some pretty rough times these days with the 49ers. I think that Mike Nolan is probably going to get canned after the team has to turn over its top 5 pick (looking likely) to the Patriots come draft day. I couldn't miss Carmen Policy and Eddie Debartalo much more than I do right now.
